Nice to see that some body with same taste. i have also PM'd most of the members who had this engine to know the details and availability, but none replied !!

from my limited knowledge .

there are two engines in 4FG1 category. with and without turbo. turbo one produces 86 BHP ( around) and its 2.4 L

can some one share where these engines are available? is the spares are common with Tavera engine? availability of trooper 4x4 GB etc .

@toms: There was a 4x4 isuzu gearbox in Chennai a few weeks back. if you are serious to buy it, I can check on it and get back to you.

A few guys on this forum have done the Isuzu with gearbox transplant and a good mechanic should be able to do it.

hi tom, thks for the reply man. really appreciate it. well according to my knowledge isuzu engine with 4x4 trooper gearbox should cost u around 55000 to 60000 Rs/- in delhi mayapuri. I am also in the process of hunting for a good engine rght now. if i strike gold will definately let you know. moreover did some research yesterday and found that 4fg1 2.4 engine was used in an isuzu van known as fargo (12 seater) and these engines were used somewhere in mid 90's. what i have been told by people is that this engine is super reliable with no shortage of spare parts as hm motors also use the same engine line.

Engines G1 Turbo and Non Turbo

The Engines will be available in Chennai and rarely in coimbatore. If you any good broker in Mumbai you can get it cheaper than Coimbatore.

Bangalore the engines were very very less.If they have also they will tell more than 50k only for engine.

If you want engine,I can say to my Mechanic for this.So that you can go with him and see the engine and pay for it.

You are more or less right about the price estimate. Depending on the condition it may go up by 5-10k. As per spare parts are concerned, yes almost everything is available brand new off the shelf, and genuine stuffs. I am running 1.8 4zb1 Petrol engine in my jeep and amazed to see the toughness of this engine! We managed to travel close to 3500 km in the jeep with the engine in 'as it is' condition. And recently when it was finally opened up for overhaul, we were stunned how the engine was pulling up in this condition!
If you plan to put a diesel Isuzu, i guess the 2.4 Turbo should be a good choice. Randeep has done the same set-up in his 550.

good to hear that these engines are available in chennai, but i was told that these modifications are not allowed as per RTO rules.

If in case of any mishap the insurance will not cover the vehicle and you and there are chances of your vehicle getting ceased by RTO

This is what i heard but i can see lot of jeepers doing the modification.

I guess 4x4 addict has put in a scorpio engine into his 540 so he should have more details

re: Isuzu 4fg1 engine

I have decided to upgrade my MM540 to the Isuzu 4JG2 engine. Inspiration was another member on the forum who upgraded to the same engine.

4JG2 is a 3.1 TCIC IDI engine that makes 135 bhp @ 3600 rpm and 30 kgm Torque at 2000 rpm. The earlier versions of this engine made a little less 125 bhp and 28 kgm Torque.

I am selling my MDI3200TC DI Turbo Engine and NGT 520 4WD Gearbox for sale. Please check the classifieds for details.

Then engine specs look good. Given that the engine tops out at 3600 rpm, what diff ratios are you planning to use to balance on-road/off-road?

Is this the same engine as the one Randeep had? How tough is it to find an engine? Can you pm costs? spare part availability?

Cheers,
Adi

Hi Adi,

The engine doesn't top out at 3600 rpm. It can make it's max bhp at 3600 rpm. If you see the Ford Endy 3.0 performance graph. It makes max bhp at 3600 rpm but engine revs to 4500 rpm.

For now I am planning to retain the 4.27 since the Isuzu had 4.3 with 245/75/16 tires. I will drive it and see if I need to go for 4.88.

Randeep, I beleive has the 2.4L Engine..

Regarding Parts, some are shared with the Tavera Engine, others have to be sourced abroad..

Ok. Thanks for the clarification about the redline rpm.

Hoping to see a thread from you on the mods like engine mounts, chassis strengthening and others envisaged. Have you started yet?

Cheers,
Adi
