Towing a broken down 4x4

ETCHATLY!!! But see they sit on the bumper. Somebody is already out there trying out a trial piece, so lets wait for him

This will be mostly done with 4mm iron box sections instead.

EDIT: Venki lets wait for a week or two ^^^ he spoke to me yesterday before starting off.

They needn't, you could have it hinge off the eyelets installed on the main frame behind the bumper. That would be perfect

^^ Yup and you will need to have a paka steering system, find a gear lever lock system to hold it in neutral and avoid any theatrics

Thats a good idea about the gear lock. Will look for one, once the tow bar is done.

I suddenly see more people looking to buy petrol SWB's................

On a broken down car being towed long distance its best to disconnect the prop shaft, just four bolts !

Ofcourse. This whole disconnection of the prop-shaft is painful only when you towing a perfectly normal jeep on the highway and you suddenly see an unexplored offroad trail which you have to explore...but after connecting back the prop-shaft

DKG our man Venki is planning to use his Scorpio to tow his CJ in a very american style, to the OTR locations. For me its just an insurance idea and if Sreeraj cooperates a money saving one too

Sorry I think I missed something ! You guys are talking about towing a good car long distance? Or a broken down car?

I am interested in towing my JEEP to the offroad location, unhooking, playing around, hook back, and drive home in comfort.

You know what I have this Tata 207 and I've toyed with the idea of mounting the Jeep onto the pickup for the really long drives. Problem is the bed falls short by 12 inches. If I leave the tail gate down and secure it in way it can hold the weight of a Jeep's rear (maybe jacks under the frame ?)

Everyone keeps telling me its a stupid idea

So I just drive! But I like the idea of a Jeep being taken to the site while you enjoy the comforts of a SUV on the highway. Most hardcore offroaders with dedicated extreme offroad machines do this. Only thing is they use proper trailers

And only issue Mr RedLiner gonna face is most of the OTR's begin in one state and ends up in another. So his beloved SUV will be parked in some jungle in another state, without "rent a daily wage driver" facility around!!

How much would the rear of a Jeep weigh? It should be light enough for two strong men to lift off the ground?

DKG, I have a 207 too.

Best is to extend the rear with 12 mm steel plates that come out from under the chassis over the ladder and support it back to the chassis with a L angle support. This 12 inches or so should not be much of a problem especially if you can manage to have the wheels sit in pre fabricated arches. This way your 207 with the wheel stand attached would be rigid and you could jack and remove the wheel stand and drive down your jeep!!
