Hello Guys,

Monstar is done with Stage one of 4x4 mods and now i am planning for a heart transplant.

I was thinking of 1.3 Carb eng with 4 speed GB

please share your view and let me know if you have any better option in mind.

Hi Devang,

Whats your take on the Baleno 1.6 or Isuzu 1.8 ??. Both are good engines and would be suitable for your Gypsy.

Hi Dev,

Why do you need to change the Diff & T-Case?

You can also consider the 1.8L Isuzu from the Amby with Gearbox.

Regards,

Arka

Arka for 1.6 change off diff and TC required due to the difference in Gear Ratio.
it works without changing too but i think i will be very high revving engine.

isnt the 1.8 Isuzu heavy?? will it mate with 4wd easily??

what do you think about 1.3 Gypsy eng with 4speed gb??

Hi Dev,

The 1L Gypsy has a Lower Diff-Ratio (4.1:1 IIRC) the 1.3L has 3.73:1.

It is desirable to have Lower Diff-Ratio in a 4x4 Vehicle.

Also the OD of the Tyre can be changed to get similar speed.

Dwarka has converted his Gypsy to 1.8L Isuzu with Gear Box and retained the Gypsy T-Case (Divorced).

1.3L+ 4 Speed, I have not seen that combination, so cannot comment on it.

You can pickup a 1.3L Engine/Gear Box and use with your Vehicle and also add the 1.3 T-Case.

Another route can be keep the 1L & 4 Speed and get a 1.3 T-Case and Put Crawler Gears.

Regards,

Arka

If you are on a budget, just stick to some port polish, header/exhaust, air filter and an electronic engine module. If you find a crawler + locker for the 410 nothing like it.

i didnt get you on these two points.

1) you mean change everything except the diff??
2) Isnt the TCASE same for 1.3 and 1L?

@Jaggu,

Instead of spending on that i will try to put 1.3 with 4speed and it should be better in terms of Offroad performance.

Devang,

There is no change in Tcase between 1ltr and 1.3 ltr. Gearbox and differential are the only change. You can mate any engine and gearbox in Gypsy because of its divorced t-case. Alteration will be required in moving tcase a bit backward, that changes even the propeller shaft length.

Baleno engine is the best fit in gypsy, check with allan.

Dwarak Sir, Viji is right. I bought crawl gear set same and Khan_Sultans and tried to install in on my Deisel MG410 TC thinking that both TC of 413 and 410 are same. But it wasn't.

Same with Differential and Diff Locks.
So my crawl gears and Diff lockers are still stored in my cupboard.

are all these engines easy to source, the baleno 1.6 or the Isuzu 1.8? and even though many have done these conversions, wont it always be best to retain the stock engine and have add ons which might boost the overall efficiency?
