Suresh Sir, please tell more about the HVAC unit, I see it neatly tucked behind the front grille.

Re: My Companion

Dear All. Thanks. I will try to answer all the questions.
I am having this jeep for the past 12 years. She is a true companion. Very reliable. The longest non stop drive it has done was about 950km. It was completely stripped and re-built now. It is a 1990 model standard CJ 340 It still has the original Peugout XDP 4.9 engine and the KMT 90 gearbox. It has the 2 lever Transfer case. It have changed the Air filter to the paper type. The exhaust pipe has a flexible joint. I have changed the differential from 5.38 to 4.27( it has of course have tamed the original grunt but I find it is a reasonable balance and she has performed decently in the first Munnar- Kodai OTR) . It has a full floating axles in the rear with an LSD. The axles are hardened and custom made my me. The front housing/axle is changed to MM 540's. It has free wheeling hubs. The winch is Ramsey REP 8000. The high lift jack is a 4 feet one. The fog lamps are the work lamps of Bull dozers. Instead of the regular D rings, It has a custom made EYE- bolt fittings in the front. The A/C compressor is Sanden make and the blower is a national unit. The radiator is four core and I have moved towards the fan( to avoid overheating). I have introduced a timer for heating. The battery is Amaron Harvest(90Amps). The fenders, side indicators and the top/doors are Classic's(Thanks to Tejas). The Driver seat is from a ceilo ( it is very comfortable) and the seat belt is from an indica. The original rear door was beyond repair and it is replaced by a 540's. I have retained the original bumpers and the side steps.

Re: My Companion

Suresh sir, when did you change the 5.38 - 4.27? During this rebuild? Or even before?

The outcome is very nice. The HLJ seems to hinder the rear right tail lamp...

Re: My Companion...'90 Mahindra CJ340 (with air-con)

Dear Santhosh, Thanks
The ratio change was done at least 3 years back. In between I have switched it back now again it is with 4.27 ratio. The high lift jack will be fitted only for off roading but still I agree it is not the best place.

Re: My Companion...'90 Mahindra CJ340 (with air-con)

Suresh Sir ,

I was seeing the step by step rebuild of the jeep . It was an awesome and inspiring sight. Now she looks great and I know she also performs great. Now you are giving me ideas of changing the diff ratios . I am also thinnking of the same for quite some time now but was resisting for sentimental reasons and also for the fear of losing out on the off-roading capability.

As some one already mentioned the Seats are great and i am looking to change mine too to the same configuration .

AC too is a nice touch and will touch base with you regarding the performance later after it runs for some time.

Suresh sir, I just checked into the Kuttikanam offroad meet today and just remembered the lovely get together I had with the whole TVM-nowturned-Bangy team. It was a wonderful and jovial experience meeting each one of you.

Was searching on your name and saw this lovely jeep of yours. I like the hood work. By the way , I have got my hands on 8/43 front and back crown & pinion from an petrol model 540, working on your tip to go for one. Would get this in Bangalore through my younger brother tomorrow. Need your advise on a reliable workshop, where I can get this installed. Currently my 540 has a 9/44 or 4.88 in the front & back.
