Re: 1993 MM540 4X4 Restoration

Sachin,

Thank god and the nuns for maintaining the 540 this good before you bought it. A good job done on your Jeep and systematically too. Reminds me of mine.
Have many on and off road miles on it.

The Jawa is Damn neat!
Regards,

Get the FWH soon, will keep your fuel bills down and also lower unwanted work of the front diff and Tcase!

Re: 1993 MM540 4X4 Restoration

Some where on TBhp 4x4 Section there is a link on shocks for jeeps. Cheap option is bolero (newer models) rear shocks and all 4 (IIRC) - because it has the longest travel and makes a diff in offroading (max articulation).

Re: 1993 MM540 4X4 Restoration

hey Shubhendra,
I picked one up for my 540, DP 2.1L engine, part number 26925056B, (5056B LTVS), from Karuna stores here in Bangalore ph.080 41248433, i've also seen an authorized Lucas-TVS shop on JC road. Cost me 10k, including tax. Wasn't easy getting it tho, due to availability of stocks. But the XDP engine being 2.5L would require a higher powered starter motor.

Regards,
Sachin

Yep, dont remember the part#, but 8.~" rings a bell. This is the longest/cheapest branded shocks for a jeep.

Hi S_patrick. Strange, but yesterday when I checked, Gabriel shocks were ~400 a piece. I will confirm if its the same one we are talking about.

The price is quoted by Navin Automobiles, Sulthan Bathery.

Re: 1993 MM540 4X4 Restoration

Patrick,
The tyre photo put up by you is Apollo bullet series. This is available in the first corner shop on JC road, Bangalore, in the first signal. (right turn leads to Urvashi talkies, left goes to kalasipalyam),take the left turn and first shop on the corner, don't remember the name.

I used to have these tyres on my 540, must advise that they are good on the sand/mud, but give a very choppy performance on the tarmac. We drive hundereds of miles on the tarmac to reach offroad spot. This is very reason, I changed to AT Yoko geolanders. I am very satisfied now.

Regards
Andy

PS: Please PM me your cell number.

Hey Dhanush, these shocks are of the Bolero's, used for the rear suspension, guess the 540's shocks would be around 400 a piece. Was in Bathery last weekend, but didn't get time to visit Naveen though.

Grace,
These tires are ATF - Asian tyre factory. They cost about 4.5k a piece apparently... Balaji tyres and Cherry, are two shops on that corner at JC road, they have Apollo Bullet, at 8k a piece, steep for my budget as of now..

ATF Farm King Tyres

sorry about the late reply, was caught up with work... took a break n drove to Wayanad last weekend, the fog, the weather, simple amazing!!

Been having a problem with the 'death wobble' for a while now, when enquired here in Bangalore, i was told its a 2 day job and alot of work, got it done in Erumad, Wayanad.. They took off a shim from each side, tightened a few areas, done in ten minutes! drove 400kms back, without any wobble!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shim_(spacer)

here are a few pics of the jeep- additions since last time
-tow hook- second hand off a tractor
-jerry can chain
-fog lamps
-vandalism- some fool tore the soft top transparent sheet with a blade

Took the soft top off to wash it, but that didnt turn out so well, it shrunk a bit, and pores seemed to open up.. quality of canvas isn't so good.. will have to replace it soon... Bangalore-Mysore i did experience some rains but didnt have any trouble... Whereas in Wayanad with the constant rains and humidity upto 94%, the top was soaked, went for a drive in the rain n the entire jeep was flooded!! Drove straight to Sultan Bathery n got a rexine put over the frame

Hi Patrick,

How is the steering effort after work? IMO, it should have increased?

How does Anil ettan charge you for soft-top work? He charged me outrageously for my installation, after which i have never gone there.

Next time you are in Bathery do call me. We can meet up!

Hey Dhanush,
nope, no change in the steering effort, they did ask me about that, checked it up right away...
and Anil did a really good job with my soft top, i think he charged me 1.5k for the entire labour.. materials i picked up from Bangalore.. was worth it... this time he charged me 75 bucks... picked up the rexine from this new place opened up near Welmart, they have good canvas too...
Saw your jeep in the empire parking lot here a while back, the work on your top is pretty simple, he shouldn't have charged you much... i got a two piece top done, rear removable, with both sides opening, and the rear i asked him to do the X like he did for yours...
