This is a routine followed by all the local workshops. There are atleast 3 workshops(lathewallas) in Coimbatore who are dedicated to automobile part conditioning for more than 3 decades. The front propeller shaft on my 550 was missing when I took delivery. I bought a yoke and teeth assembly and a seamless pipe. The lathewalla fabricated the shaft, dynamically balanced it and is now working fine on my jeep.

Dear Jerrycan and all - I am not casting aspersions on anybody's capacity or capability. I have only stated the fact. I have visited umpteen number of "Expert Lathewallahs" so I know how they work. In all my years working with cars and their drum brakes, I have not yet machined the ID of a single brake drum, even when there were a lot of lines on it. Just a brief dab with a sandpaper followed by a thorough wash with a neutral solvent is all that is required.

Take the brake disc. Manufacturing it is not an easy task although the part looks very simple. When we get a field issue, the caliper guy blames the disc guy for concentricity, the disc guy blames the caliper guy for alignment and axial float. It finally becomes very frustrating, going back and forth. Go one step further. Go to motorcycle brake disc. Can you now imagine the process controls required? The caliper is fitted on a moving fork! If this is reality, how can a humble lathewallah exercise so much statistical control? I once again state that I am not casting aspersions on anybody's capacity or capability. I have only stated the fact.

That's why, avoid doing things which need very stringent control, not within the purview of normal operational capability.

Dear Sir,

Yes, I faced this problem in my Old 550 after moving to first over. My rear left side drum got stuck in my old jeep.In that jeep the right side was first over and left side was Standard So I changed the left side to first over and from the very next day first time breaking problem stated I didn't get more time to check that problem as It got sold. But Now only I understand the real reason stupid: .Will test the jeep tomorrow morning.

Dear Sreejeshmp - thank you for understanding and recognizing the root cause of a vehicle issue. Now, like this, you think independently for each and every thing that you do to the vehicle. You will get all the answers yourself. This is plain and simple common sense. As a matter of fact, the complete vehicle from the front bumper to the rear bumper is an extension of common sense only.

Oversize liners become radially thick because the metallic shoe diameter does not change, so their vibration characteristics change completely when they touch the drums. Besides pedal pulsation, you will lose pedal feel and deceleration. Please revert to OE specification.

Hi sreejesh. Looks like some unique color. Will definitely come out great with a dark brown and black theme. Hope to catch up soon in Coimbatore.

Which parts you need ? The civilian vehicle is Force Pick-up, for 16" Wheels :D.
I am getting a Thar CRDe canopy from a friend hope it will be a direct fit.

Painting takes more time than I expected .The painter seems like he is enjoying the work on my Jeep.

I will be using a heavy 16 gage sheet or a 2-3mm sheet.

16 SWG or 1.6 mm should be okay. Make them as light as possible. Bumpers should not transfer the impact to the Chassis in case of a Hit. I may be wrong, the gurus can throw some light here

Abhilash that Jeep plate is a gift from a friend. It's not for selling purpose, he made it for his jeep and gifted one set to me.
