Congratulations on your Thar - I hope you have many many miles in your Thar.

And must say - very nice pictures of your Thar.

How are the brakes - you find them okay?

And trust me - even after a year and half - when you look at it parked in your drive way - you'll feel the same as you do now.

cheers

Thanks a lot ! :)

I am finding breaks are good but I have habit of engine breaking so can't really comment. Let me do some more miles and then will re-visit this question.

Thanks,
Vishal

Dear Vishal,

Congratulations on a great buy!! This is a life long bond and I am sure you will keep it so.

Do I really see some rust on the hood pipe in the second picture? Or is it something else?

Regards
Vinay

Hi Vinay,

Thanks for wishes ! Yes I am hoping to keep this jeep with me life long however I have a dream to own/use different types of vehicle and I have set a specific budget to play for me so don't know how long I will use it :D But presently I am enjoying it a lot.

The image you are talking about is not my vehicle, it is taken from other thread for reference.

Thanks,
Vishal

Hey Vishal,

Congratulations on the Thar, you made a good choice. Now don't let the ASC guys ruin your ownership, make sure you have them under check all the time. I'm saying that from experience.

Don't fight over those rear seats too much if you plan to get the SA rollbar since they will have to go eventually. :D

Hey Amol,

Thanks for wishes and Congrats to you as well.

Yes, I follow your thread update regularly. I am not fighting with ASC guys I do everything very tactically just sitting at office. :P Whenever I receive a call from M&M customer care I just tell them that I am not happy and within some hours everyone from dealer runs behind me.

Now not going to chase them for anything except servicing, and for servicing I am going to stand behind the service guy. The roll bar is main thing for me now, waiting for right parts numbers.

very nice

Hey, its totally planned and had spent 20 mins to get right shot. Lots of time reverse and turn :). People in my society were looking curiously from them terrace, that was a very funny moment.

Thanks,
Vishal

As of now, it is a 2.49L engine. MHawk is 2.2 and comes with a TMIC, this is 2.49 with a FMIC.

One "may" see a scoop if the 2.2 L is plonked in, all depends.

Vishal, you are lucky you got it without the mHawk engine.

Spike:D

Spike et al,

What are the nuanced differences between the 2.49 and the 2.2 mHawk, other than the obvious ones like higher bhp etc. I would have thought it was an "open and shut" case that the newer, 2.2 mHawk is a better engine. I'd love to know more about this.

Congrats man! So when is it hitting the broken trail? :)

Hey Thanks !

Yes, Thar will hit the broken trail in June 2013, planning a round trip to Leh.

Brought some goodies for weekend job on my Thar and Estilo.

Jopasu duster.

Tried Jopasu duster and fiber cloth last weekend, it is easy to use and does the job very well.

I bought Thar as second vehicle however I am using it daily form the day one. lol:

So I am working on the 2 modification now to make it perfect family vehicle.

1. Front facing seat - Almost zeroed on using stock small bench and make new bracket for it and if it is not comfortable for long drive then Innova split seat.

2. Hard top - Worked on all the available options and found that the one I like is out of budget so have to compromise on somethings, I like Italian HT however it costs more than a top-end Nano rl:.

Now I am left with following options:

Hyderabad HT: I like it 90%, the only compromise is rear view but that is not deal breaker. So did a quick comparison with the picture I found on Hyderabad HT thread.

Images of Red Thar are taken from here, thanks to the @vj_k2001 TBHPian for detailed images.

And here is the 10% compromise.

Hello Vishal

Very good review. Though I had read it before and now again, I had few questions:

1) How is the braking experience? Since almost each review thread complains about braking.
2) Since you are planning to install front facing seats, will it seat 2 or 3 persons?
3) Can a 3 seating bench be fixed in Thar? Or can the existing side facing seats made into front facing?

Excellent review Vishal, congrats to you! I have not spotted you in this beast yet.
I have been out of touch though in coverage area, due to some issues at my end (you may or may not know)

We are waiting for a demo. When can that happen?
