Roll Bar and Frame for Canvas

Roll Cage. A very simple Roll Bar has been fitted. Its 2inch pipe. The pipes will now receive a coat of primer and cover by a layer of thermocol roll and then set in place by rexine sheet and zippers.

Canvas Frame

Here is the look of the front profile now

Bought a 1970 Mahindra Jeep (CJ500) | Requesting advice and guidance-img_20241219_165657639_hdr.jpg

The canvas support frame is completely dismantlable by a single person. Even the roll bar can be easily removed. The idea was to have a well shaped canvas when it is put on and then whenever we want a completely open jeep it can be easily converted.

Next Course of Action

The denter has finished his tinkering -denting work. Now all the frames, seats, roll bar etc will be removed and it will be then sent for Paint Job. The painter has asked for 8 days for it to be completed. There after the electricals work will take place which include complete wiring change with proper piping. The fuze box will be repaired with all new fuzes along with relays etc. There will be a start button and a 12V DC lighter. I am also adding a Dolphin Digital clock of the Gypsy.

CanvasThe next phase will be the canvas. A brand new black canvas will be fabricated. The sides of the canvas will have the option to be completely rolled up.

The last part is to carry out all the oil and tube changes.

I will keep updating

The colour of the Jeep planned as of now is this. I have chosen the picture from open source

Please use 'report post' on the post where you want moderator attention (in this case your first post on this thread) and they will assist in your renaming request. That’s the red exclamation mark graphic in bottom left of your post.

Good choice. This color won't show dirt and dust so much and it is smart looking. Try to get a similar color and hue without mixing at all. This way if you have to repaint something later you can buy the same paint color without as much trouble trying to match the existing paint.....with luck.

Hi Dan,
Thank you, man. I would have just looked at the shade and not thought about this aspect later, lovely foresight. The Jeep has gone today for the paint job. I will be insisting on the original shade.

Need Help with Hand Brake Cable

Please refer to the picture below. The cable for this hand brake is not available here. Any idea where I can get it sourced from?

If Khairatilal can't help with the cable, try amby, old Fiat or bullet cable.

If the cable is not available, you can get it made.

1. Buy a braided cable used in older cars for handbrake, or motoror cycle clutch/brake cable. It should be of original thickness (should fit smoothly in the brake cable sleeve. Check the length by running the cable throught the sleeve.

2. Now you go to an old school radiator repair person and get one end soldered to the T handle. Solder the other end also so that it does not unravel.

3. In case the whole cable is missing, is no sleeve of the old cable as well as no T handle, then just buy a long cable with sleeve. They are either motorcycle cables or clutch cable of some older car models.

Dear Aroy,
Thank you so much for the input. Today after coming back from a short visit to Panna Tiger Reserve, went straight to my Mechanic and told him exactly what to do. He was kinda zapped for a few second and agreed to do the needful.

Hi Vinod,
Thank you for the input. I spoke to Khairatilal but unfortunately they do not have it. Thereafter as per the detailed guidance from Aron, have asked the mechanic to fabricate the same, which he has agreed.

Paint Update

The paint job has started. The steps planned

2 Application of Surfacer
3. Application of sealant on all joints

You're doing the right things, don't be in a hurry for painting, as it's severe winter now, with dence fog and lots of dew, let him start painting in bright sunshine.

The use of putty can have a downside. The heat of the sun directly on your jeep will make the sheet metal underneath expand, and contract, at a different rate than the putty that is placed over and around it. This MAY lead to the cracking and falling away of the putty layer after as little as 1.5 years. This is going to depend on what brand putty you use and the skill of the techy doing the work. My purpose here is to warn you of the possible-probable effects of using too much putty particularly in areas exposed to direct sunlight. I tend to stay away from putty for these reasons. You might want to check with your painter and your mechanic about this.

Dear Dan,
Thank you so much. Infact it seems you had some telepathic connection with the painter. When I reached out to him the next day at his workshop, he has already started scrapping off the paint job he had carried out on the bonnet as he was not satisfied with the same. The bonnet paint part is being redone again with very bare min putty work .
regards

Electricals and Fitments

Today the jeep has moved to the electrician's shop. The electrical work and fitment work will be carried out simultaneously. The entire wiring setup is being repaired/changed, new fuzes being put. The new addition planned are start button, digital clock ,12 V Cigarette lighter socket ,indicator , Map light, Instrument reading light. After the fitment and electrical work, the Jeep will again be bought for polishing at the Painter shop.

The Jeep being made ready to go to the electrician's shop minus the bonnet( being repainted) and the windshield.
