My MM540XD upgrade
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-vehicles/49375-my-mm540xd-upgrade-2.html)
Why do not try out fixing power steering of Koyo, Japan. They costed me only Rs. 5 K and working well on my MM540 with 265x75 R15 tyres. You can see this in the below pic close to the left indicator light. It is working quite fine in my Jeep so far and it is not so expensive too.
can you post pics of the PS etc, engine bay ? Thx

Where from you sourced it? And how was the installation, straight forward or needed some good modifications? Are you having any PS oil-leak issues etc?
-Best regards,
Yesterday, headers, Esteem_Lover & Me, went to the Kelambakkam Quarry.
We had a couple of things to check.
1) Headers wanted to see how is MM540DP performed with a new FIP and 7.00X16 NDMS; and checkout his Gypsy after TPC2008 in Rocky terrain.
2) I wanted to Checkout the performance of
a) My petrol CJ3B after engine rebuild and upgraded carburettor and 4-1 headers.
b) See the "advantages" of OKBJ & MRCBT off-the-road.
3) Esteem_Lover wanted to introduce his youngest ever-smiling son to Off-Roading.
MRCBT Review - Advantages
1) The Steering Ratio and the lower input torque made turn and aligning the vehicle very easy even with a functional front LSD.
2) The 57" OKBJ Axles have made the vehicle very stable on the road i.e does not wander too much
3) Improved Turning radius (better than the CJ3B with 7.00X16), I can pull any U-Turn...no-more 3Pt Turns.
Disadvantages.
1) Tyres stick out in the front.
2) Requires more room (3.5" on each side)
3) Flings every thing over the vehicle.
4) Require more attention & room while driving.
5) Slower Steering Re-Centering
I think it is a worthwhile upgrade as it require less effort while driving and is more relaxing.
Regards,
Arka
Nice work Arka! Glad that it worked out well. I wanted to try your jeep the last time we met but decided not to, after seeing your brother trying to give his biceps a workout!!!
hey arka,
Sorry man i couldnt make it for reasons i told u. Nice pics man.....where are axle benders?? It rained heavily on sunday, didnt u have slush to play around? Also is it not the time to switch to zero offset rims to restrict the wheels popping out so much out of body?
@headers- your MM540 is looking good and feeling healthy!!:-))) Any new jobs undertaken.....:-)))
regards
Vinod
Thanks to headers for his MM540, I had good fun & so did my son.
Headers was driving his rockin' Gypsy.
Arka, I was wondering what's with this light steering in your jeep, i did not see this thread until now. Good job Arka, your jeep is much easier to steer now.
Vikram, your jeep climbed like a doll, i must say. 3rd time i am doing this & it has never been this easy.
We had a terrific time doing this yesterday. Perfect climate, with a little bit of shower as we climbed down.

Just go to Mayapuri and you will see Jeeps with power steering and most of them are of Koyo brand only. No oil licking issue with my Jeep and it is in perfect condition.
Oil licking? Be careful with the spellings man...:D
Arka, would have liked to see the front side of your Jeep while in action. Your Jeep will be always special for me since it is the first Jeep I ever drove.

Guys, it was a nice off road, short and sweet!
well, dont want to hijack arka's thread, so will post later about the mods done in both my vehicles!
cheers

Arka,
Where do you get these ideas from? Nice mods. Thanks for explaining the benefits,
Just did not get this '3) Need suitable rear axles.', is it to align with the front axles?
John, Looks like you and your boy had a good bonding experience thanks to Vikram.
Vikram, You have 2 offroaders now? Now, I'd like to see you recite just the pros of the Gypsy. :)

I guess you have covered all the new models. The above is a good information which I have noted in my diary :). However the other page of my diary reads some more diff-ratio which is missing in your list..
Tail Crown Ratio
8 43 5.38:1
8 38 4.75:1
9 47 5.22:1
10 43 4.30:1
12 43 3.58:1
13 46 3.54::1
Arka, also can you please let me know if you have any idea about that how many tail and crown does a differential of Maxx's 3.73 ratio has. This going to be a new entry in my list.

Hi Naren,
Could you please specify on which New or Old M&M vehicles these Diff-Ratios are used.
3.73:1 = 41/11
Regards,
Arka
Hi Arka,
Sorry, I am heardly know anything about what you have asked as I collected these information by checking with a saveral junk yards who deals in 2nd hand parts (including Mayapuri, Delhi).
5.38 - MM540 (with 2.1 ltr engine)
4.75 - as per my machanic - in petrol Jeeps (I guess he meant CJ3A).
4.89 - MM550XD
We need to find out more info about the other tail & crown ratios.
Nice that we are having a great choice for our Mahindra vehicles. I have already tested three different ratio for my MM540XD.
