since MM THAR is made in India but its LHD and for export only, can an indian import it back from europe?

OR

does anyone has enough contacts to take out one from the M&M Factory here in india?

please:

I had sent a query to Mr. Behram on this a few months back (thru PM) but there was no response.

So I guess the answer is 'NO'!

I am into a shipping industry and I am scarred from what you are inquiring about. A vehicle reimport to it's origin country. Thought the origin of the good is India only but still there are so much comilicacy that I am sure you have to pay the custom duty. If I calculate everything, this is going to be a crazy deal.

My suggestion are as follows...

1. Forget the Thar and better you think about importing Jeep Wrangler from US.
2. Buy a second hand MM550XD and change the engine to CRDe, belive me it is not so difficult.
3. If your philosophy/heart do not allow you to buy a second hand vehicle, go for Gypsy King MPFI which also a great vehicle.

Ask mahindra about Quadro. A genuine spares guy in your local town will show the pictutes of quadro from the mahindra booklet they have. I think the Thar is a dressed up version of the Quadro (roll cage etc) done by some enterprising local european dealer.(not sure though)

Regards,
Krishna.

Thank you, but I've already made my plans. I bought a Defender.

Hey, I did not mean it for any foreign product. Mahindra Thar is an Indian product and we are discussing about import it back to India and this was what my point was about.

well i guess this is it.....cant get it!

have to build it....the THAR!

cheers:

There is a persistant rumor that MM is going to come out with a new 4x4 soon. How soon? Well, I'd like to know that, too. But, it may be the Thar or something like it or a civilian MM540 or a civ Stryker.
The rumors are strong. It would be a shame to import something which is about to be sold in country.

rumors every day!

anyway M&M might launch a limited edition 4x4 for indian market and it will be priced too high to be bought by common off roadies like us!

so....built it, like desert king did!

cheers:

I am sure that Parm if you go ahead and build one you would be a real happy camper. at the end of the day like some one said "Jeep are not to be bought they are to be Built"

I was looking at Harjeev Bai jees thread and there are some pics of a rubicon replica. its lookiing great and sure if you put as much money for what you will get the jeep back to india you will get a better one here in india itself. source out a good engine in Mayapuri or some where. get it build.

thanks

sure desi, thats my thought from 1st day....build my own jeep as per my taste and requirements!

harjeev is going on the right track and so did other JEEPERS in this forum who built their own jeeps....thats the only way to get your desired JEEP!

:OT
how much you payed for your defender.

parm, though i'm not a huge fan of the Thar for it odd looks, color, oversized tyres. but if you are considering a transformation from MM540 to the Thar, the pictures might help.

OTHERWISE, have a look at this. this was an export product of M&M for Australia. for this you will need a 4X4 CL340/CJ340/Classic/Cj3B.

new Mahindra Thar Concept
Previewed at the Bologna Motor Show 2008, the off-road Thar
Concept invents a new segment in the 4x4 market. In the Mahindra
Europe stand, seen also the 6 seats car version of the off-road Goa SLX
and work pick-ups by the Indian manufacturer.

The Mahindra Thar Concept project - previewed at the 33rd Bologna Motor
Show, taking place from December 5th-14th next - is the heart of the
Indian manufacturer's stand. Under its classic look, reminding of the first
model produced by Mahindra & Mahindra in 1945 and of the legendary
4x4 which made the history of off-road, Mahindra Thar Concept represents
an absolutely new proposal and opens a new segment in the present offroad

market.
Simple, basic, strong, able to arrive everywhere as required to a true offroad

vehicle, Mahindra Thar Concept is named after the Thar Desert or
Great Indian Desert and is addressed to all looking for a 4x4 vehicle. After
buying this vehicle, with a limited expense, the owners will be able to adapt
it to their personal needs, enriching it with accessories and special
equipments that can make it more in keeping with working or spare time
needs.

Mahindra Thar Concept is equipped with a modern 4 cylinders
2,500 cc turbodiesel with direct injection, common-rail and intercooler,
producing 107 CV (79 kW), designed by the Austrian company AVL in
cooperation with the German Bosch and produced in India
