Try tightening all the nut/bolts in the driveline and see if this fixes the problem. It can happen in any gear change as the driveline takes on the load again, but is more noticeable in the shifts you mention because matching wheel and engine rpm driven prop shaft speeds is more of challenge at those times and less likely to be achieved to the extent needed for this not to happen with driveline slack.

A drive line problem can be easily identified. When on a level stretch of highway while driving at around 60km/h switch to neutral, and after the Gypsy rolls for about 50m go back to 4th. Any play in the drive line will result in a jerk as the drive line engages/disengages.

Does the Gypsy come with an option of front facing rear seats ? The review here says it does :

The Gypsy also comes with the option of a front facing rear bench seat and two jump seats for third row occupants. The front facing bench seat is a much more comfortable option with adequate under thigh support.
I've never heard of such a configuration being available for the Gypsy.

Don't know whether it still does or not, but I had one. No jump seats though.

To the best of my knowledge the Gypsy never came with 2+3+2 Seating Configuration. In the past the Gypsy used to come in 5 Seater (2+3) & 8 Seater (2+6) configurations, but IIRC post the Launch of Gypsy E the 5 Seater Version was discontinued.

I recently bought a Brand New Maruti Gypsy King : , currently the Gypsy is available in 3 Variants - Gypsy King Soft Top, Gypsy King Hard Top & Gypsy King Ambulance. The Soft top & Hard Top Variants are available only in 8 Seater configuration.

Such a Configuration (2+3+2) can be built locally though, infact during my School Days a family friend had such a configuration in his MG410W.

Has Maruti Suzuki officially discontinued the sale of Gypsy? the website (www.marutisuzuki.com/gypsy.aspx) is no longer functional / down? Have I missed this news? It was opening few days back though.

Looks like they are still building up the webpage as they are moving to the "Arena" theme. I am unable to open webpages of even the Omni and the Eeco.
However the Gypsy does show up in their list:

My guess: Gypsy, Omni and Eeco will be moved to their commercial webpage channel eventually, to avoid the passenger car safety norms.

Guys what is this extra fitment in Army spec Gypsy?? Couldn't comprehend at all.

That is the switch controlling those black out lights Shashi.

In the above video, anchor suggests different power ratings for the Army one. Any idea what will be different and can we change the civilian to this?

Guess you should get the parts manuals of Civilian and Army Spec Gypsy and compare both. :)

Part No: 99000M24120-260
Name: PARTS CATLOGUE GYPSY1.3L (RHD&LHD)
Price: Rs. 223

Part No: 99000M24120-261
Name: PARTS CATALOGUE(GYPSY-ARMY EXCLUSIV
Price: Rs. 264.5

haha, so they are not Ok with someone sharing details of Army spec vehicle but will sell parts catalog :)

That guy on youtube has probably seen a gypsy up close for the first time. There is no power difference between a regular and army spec gypsy.

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has a 1999 Gypsy King Soft Top - Carburettor Model. He is having a lot of issues with the carb. Present idling revs are 1150 RPM. Car engine is racing at traffic lights etc. Present fuel consumption is about 4.5 Kmpl and is driving him crazy. The Gypsy does not have an A.C. If he reduces the RPM to 850-900, the Gypsy does not start. He has been to two Maruti A.S.S centres but they say they do not have anyone with the expertise to fix a carburettor! The Gypsy is in Goa.
Can anyone please help with suggestions or if someone could send me a scan of the owners maintenance manual showing the pages with the carb parts etc it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
SS

From whatever you've described it seems to be a case improper setting of idling jet/leak in the vacuum line/connection of the airbox etc.

Goa should have a lot of Gypsys (some of those carbureted) on the road still and there would be some specialist mechanics who could help your friend. MASS wouldn't be able to help because they probably have not even seen a carbureted Gypsy for years.

Unfortunately, I do not know much about the carbureted fuel systems so wouldn't be able to help you, however, a fellow bhpian Antihero had uploaded the service manual of Suzuki Samurai (short wheelbase SJ 410) couple of years ago. I do not know if the Suzuki Samurai employed the same carburetor that was offered in India. Please go to section 4 and it has all the details that you will need.

Here's link: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/4x4-te...tant-tips.html

Hope this helps. Good luck!

There can be multiple reasons - clogged air filter, extremely rich fuel-air mixture, badly adjusted carburetor, worn out engine, are a few of them.

. Most probable is that the air filter is clogged. Take it out and check. If if looks dirty replace if a paper element, or wash it if it is a mesh filter.

. Next check the engine timing. If the timing is too retarded then you will have all the symptoms that you describe, plus slow acceleration and engine will heat up very soon. Get it checked by a garage that has a timing light.

. Check the throttle body for smoke residue. If there is, it means that the fuel-air mixture is too rich, Clean the throttle body and then service the carburetor.

. When all else fails, it will be carburetor. There are two main jets - idling and running. Plus there can be a lot of dirt. Best bet is to find some one who can deal with carburetors. It will involve
- Taking the carburetor out.
- Dismantling it.
- Checking the jets for dirt and/or wear (wear will increase the jet opening, leading to high petrol consumption.
- Replace the jets with those of correct size.
- Assemble the carburetor.
- Fix it and then tune it ti get proper idling speed.

When I had the Ambassador, then Fiat and finally M800 non mpfi, I did my own carburetor servicing. Of course in those days all parts - jets, springs etc were easily available. Today you mat have to search the net for these parts.

If all the above fail, then you have an engine problem, which can only be diagnosed after opening it up.
