Soban,

sad to know that your gypsy lying in garage for over 2 years. engine job willcost you bomb. why dont you check out used engine from scrap yard and swap your engine?
max you would spend 10k, else pain and money over 15 k

It will cost much more than 10 to 15k for an engine job on a gypsy.

dwaraka: i doubt that a good condition used engine can be sourced within 10k.
IMO i think it is better getting the one you have overhauled. Atleast you know the history of that one.

The saying a known devil is better than an unknown angel applies here.

Even if you purchase an used engine, you will still have to overhaul it.

Soban : get the Gypsy towed to a garage and ask them to open the engine out and check the damage
I would suggest Allan (Extreme power) - he does a gr8 job.
The other advantage is that Allan has some 1.0 L working engines that he may part with for a good price.

Awaiting pics and reports now !!

Cheers

Hi Soban
I have a suggestion here, no matter who you take it to you should (have) put some diesel and oil in the cylinders to help make the repairs easy. I did that for a James Villers motorcycle (one with hand gear) and a friend helped me restore it.
I look forward to seeing some pictures.
