3) Bolero SC Pickup - You can modify the Flat bed to a Box of your Choice.

1st priority would be to use M&M platform as parts are easily available and simple to fix.

I am not sure if it is such a good idea to mount Jerry Cans on the rack as Fuel sloshing around is not one of the things you want to deal with. Also, wouldn't it a better option to fabricate a metal bumper for the winch front bars, lights, etc.

The Bolero above looks cool. Wish it had bigger tyres:-) Bolero for now in the above form with a trailer seems to be the best bet as you will have comfort, ruggedness, decent off road ability, moderate cruise-ability and repair-ability all rolled into one at an affordable price.

Bolero camper Flat bed with p/s and 4wd is also a good option but it will be a compromise on family's comfort considering you have 4 adults to travel at a time.

p.s Does any body know what roof carrier is on that Bolero?

I see that you still have the pics of the 1st biggest OTR in Bangalore. Bolero is also on my mind. But it kinda feels small.

I still dont know why there are not offering the Bolero Storm CRDe with a 4WD option!!!

This is going to act as an inspiration for my project. Not that I will be planning all the mods they have done. Nevertheless, I am totally hooked now.

how about a second hand Subaru/Chevrolet Forester? I know from maintenance point it will be not as easy as a Mahindra but still a good option to look out for. Subarus are pretty tough too.

January - 2006 - Bangalore Annual OTR .

We had close to 25 vehicles and 60 odd people including 10 foreigners.

Speaking of expedition vehicles, I spotted a Pajero on the way to work yesterday in front of St. Joseph's college (BLR) with a nice ARB roof-top tent on it. Also had an ARB snorkel

- If you are planning to cross Indian Border it is advisable to buy an 1980's ( or old ) vehicle. They charge x% of current price of vehicle as security that u need to deposit as cash.

- If you want to own Defender make a trip to Darjiling , you can close the deal for 1.5 to 2 lakhs. ( Vehicle will be 1980s ). Anyway you have to strip off vehicle components & customize to make it expedition vehicle. +1 to 1.5 Lakh for that.

- If within India, go ahead with MM. Try to avoid TATA.

My previous suggestion on a Scorpio 4x4 still stands. However, for those who can stretch that budget, quite nothing like a Toyota Fortuner for the purpose. Tough as nails, good space, a torquey diesel engine, Toyota reliability, safety equipment and a proper 4x4 tranny.
