p.s- look closely at the rear deck of the Camper. Lot of storage for fuel cans etc etc

my vote for the bolero camper. all things that can be done on a defender can be done on this and its a workhorse.

how about a Tata Xenon 4X4
it is more refined,powerful and has more creature comforts than Bolero Camper

I managed to get some snaps of the Pajero with the roof rack and the snorkel today.

This is a great thread and I am totally hooked onto it.
I personally have gone in for a gypsy but not purely as an expedition vehicle but more so for traveling to the mountains and jungles and participating in the rallies, off-road etc. Will be equipping it with a rally cabin and an aircon soon to make the long distances more comfortable and enjoyable.

However my dream vehicle though earlier was a toyota FJ80 but now 3 or 4 years down the line I might buy a pre-owned Toyota Fortuner as the FJ80 are not that easily available and a 3-4 year old fortuner looks like a much better bet than a 20 year old FJ80.

Looks like Kumara Park West, Bangalore. If thats the case, then the vehicle should belong to Ashok from Ozone. Hes the same guy who had the Bolero pictured on the previous page.

You should definitely consider a Camper in case you go on some extreme expeditions. The engine is little under powered for SPEED, but not for TORQUE.. just MHO...

Below are some of the pics posted on a SA forum (4X4Community.co.za), showing capabilities of BOLERO pik up. It was a 4X4 with DC Turbo engine. Last pic shows it tugging out a Toyota. So its a nice contender to look at.
Also apart from Gurkha, Force motors offers one of their pik up in 4X4.

Few expedition vehicles, SUVs, off roaders I saw in Europe, some might be irrelevant just wanted to share. The G Wagons are shot at the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart. Others elsewhere in Germany.

Well, I think you're all wrong;
What Rainmaker needs isn't a jeep, but a truck.
a Nissan 6 ton [they used to be Alwyn Nissan as I recall] with a short wheelbase will go just about anywhere; very reliable, serviceable everywhere, plenty of space and carrying capacity. Cheap and available too.

Now of course a 4wd jeep will get you up some Himalayan tracks where the truck won't go; but loaded with gear for 4 people, the jeep might not either. and besides, how deep into the jungles are you going with your wife and kids?
The Nissan is narrow, not much bigger than some of those fancy jeeps you're all touting, but with more ground clearance.
A truck I say! 6 ton capacity, keep it down around 4 tons and it will do the Ladakh road.
Or just buy my turbo Swaraj Mazda with hot + cold running water and full AC.

The Bolero/Bolero Camper seems to be the most logical/practical choice at this point of time.
