Ultimate SWB CJ3B

In 2006, I was working with a dealership of Mahindra & Mahindra named Silver Jubilee Motors Ltd, Pune as Asst Sales Manager. In those days Mahindra CL340 4x4 Classic, stuck in my mind as I used to see them in servicing bay once a blue moon, and thus I developed a liking for a 4x4 SWB vehicle.
After a good chase i found a CJ3b, diesel and RHD converted in my budget at 40,000/- that too after a hard core negotiation recently, the previous owner had bought it from a auction of Maharashtra Electricity Board in the late 80’s.
After going through the wonderful and informative threads of all the Gurus from TeamBhb, I stated preparing the wish list for my SWB; I thank Arka for the great support and basic knowledge he provided me over the telephone. These are certain things updated:
  • Axel: Semi floating to Full floating rear axle.
  • Silencer : Replaced to new one like bolero
  • Engine : Matador to XD3P
  • Brakes and Drum: CJ3B to MM 540.
  • Differential: MM540, 9:44
  • Frame: Original Scissor cut.
There are many more things running my mind like:which tyres, Seats, roll over bars etc..

Congrats mate, for finding your CJ and finding it at the price you found it in.

Your wish list will depend entirely on what you want to do with the CJ. whether you want to make it into; a daily drive or just an OTR vehicle or a bit of both.

Looking forward to your inputs as well. The 4X4 community on this forum is growing.....and how!!

+1 to that. 1st it was the army disposal 540/550's, then sets of new mpfi gypsies and now CJ3b one after another....great going folks.

Congrats! Is this a 4x2 or is the 4x4 retained?

I suggest keep to the semi floating axles. Use for a while, and then shift the FFRA.

Go through Mr. Faizal's thread in detail.

Go for a front disc brake conversion.

Your current roll bar looks fine. No need to change it.

When i bought the vehicle to the garage, i removed the body tub, engine, differentials, leafspring etc, then cleaned the entire chasis, arranged for mm540 front and back differentials along with the brake drums and then painted it.

Congrats on the jeep Pathfinder
and you surely have got it for a great price!
Best of luck with the rebuld!

I see the front diff housing in one of the pics, is the 4x4 working or the previous owner had disconnected it??
