Always dreamt of owning one of these:
Looked and looked and looked. Was game for a Mk1 Pajero, an older model Patrol, older model TLC, older model LR. Didnt get none. Either they cost too much or when the price was right, i had no money
2 years ago I got Jeep fever. So did not 1 but 2 restorations. :)
A little while ago the fever was just subsiding when I was passing CST road Kurla and saw this thing hiding behind a score of other appetizing cars for sale. Wasnt sure I saw what I saw. So I did a u turn and make back. Thats when I laid eyes properly on this:
It was dirty, filthy, wouldnt start and completely neglected. But I knew then and there that I just had to have it
So in this new year starts another restoration project. This time phoren. The Mk1 Mitsubishi Pajero 1989 turbo super wagon with extended range fuel tank, jerry can, ac, power steering, electric all windows, electric sunroof, tilt adjustable steering. IFS (so no good as some say for serious offroading... of course not BD Sir..) with a solid leaf spring suspension at the rear
Here are a few more pics:

Looks neat, some pictures inside and under the hood please.
Cheers,
Honestly, it doesn't look too bad to warrant a full-scale restoration. Will follow your thread closely. How much did you pay for it?
I've this feeling that the 'oil can' on the rear end looks very boring. Is that a part of the standard equipment?
All the best for the restoration project. Yes, I've subscribed to this thread. :)
Kindly take no offence.

In any case the regular fuel tank holds 93 liters, you may never need to carry extra fuel.
Congrats Rohit. Thats a real capable machine you have there. Doesnt look to bad at all. In fact ive seen later model which are in much worse shape. Hold on to this thing, its fast becoming into a classic.....and lets hope to see you for some otrs now!!

Thanks Gogi Sir!!
Surely the previous 2 owners are not members on team bhp. Such utter and complete neglect of this rig. I spent 4 hours this holiday afternoon getting the sun roof mechanism cleaned out of years of gunk and grease. Some TLC and generous helpings of WD40 later its working smooth and nice!!
So more than the money, its going to take a lot of time and effort getting this pajero back to stock showroom condition again
I have a completely restored and prepped MM540DP ready to go OTR. Just had too many weekend commitments in 2010. Hope 2011 will be better. Really looking forward to some OTR excursions with you and the gang

You are right. The body and interiors are still original, the paint is still original in most areas. So its going to be a concerted effort to make it look like the day it rolled out the factory

No offence taken and all suggestions are very welcome!!
The oil tank as far as I know is a factory or dealer fitment as I have a snap of exactly the same super turbo wagon 1989 with exactly the same tank:
So I will let it be for now:)

Will post pics soon as I can. Nice talking to you the other day!!
Could you please PM me the Price you paid for this monster, I am myself looking for an old Gen Pajero, Just to get a price idea.
Pramod
congrats on your catch mate! can't wait to see how the MK1 comes along! please post more pictures stupid:
I would like to first congratulate you for getting your hands on this. SUV looks good and it is not dirty and filthy as you have mentioned, it looks pretty good. There are lots of bells and whistles for an 89' model, Good.
Now, how much did you pay for this?? And what are the things which need restoration?? Please some interior pictures.
EDIT - Just read your previous post.
The Jerry can was actually a after market dealer provided fitment. I remember after the Gulf war there were a few Pajeros, all Petrol V6 and LHDs which had come into India. Most of them had this Jerry can with the Mitsubishi Diamonds embossed on them. In my opinion they will look lovely if painted in the same colour the Pajero is. What i really liked about these Pajeros was the simple yet rigged looks and the chrome plated rims which were an added extra or an OE depending on the trim, G, GL or GLS or was it GLX??
Waiting to see it when ready Rohit.
Gogiji that is exactly what i am planning to do. Paint it body color. Was just a bit doubtful how it should look. Will surely di it now. If it doesnt look good can always paint it back. Its not that big..
Cheers
Hey congrats rohit! is this the same car which was with Kesari shroff for sale??

Guys
I sent a list of parts required to my brother in law in delhi to check out prices there
He calls me a while later:
Didnt you by the car already?
So i say yes I have
He says: Then why are you trying to build another one with all these parts you intend to buy?
Obviously my brother in law has a twisted sense of humour, but you guys can imagine the length of the list I sent him:uncontrol
