1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

This seems to be the most suitable place to post this fascinating 45 page Sales Magazine that Ford made available free of charge to anyone.

Ford's Head Office and Parent Factory was in Detroit, Michigan having an annual capacity of 600,000 cars. Across the river in Windsor, Ontario, Canada their factory had an annual capacity of 50.000 and in Manchester England, their factory had an annual capacity of 15,000 cars.

It's interesting that all the Ford cars that came to India were from the Windsor Factory. I understand being part of the British Commonwealth was the reason.

Apart from the great photos, the stories and insights of what life was like during this period makes this publication a historical record of the time.

I expect it will take a while to scan and modify the many pages, hopefully completing it in a week or two.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

Here are some more pages.

I just reconnected with an old friend Paul Dodington, that I haven't seen for 50 years. I met him during my last year a university, at that time he was about 18 and was in the process of restoring a 1914 "T". He had set up a workshop in their basement with Bits and pieces all over.

I will never forget in the Spring of 1961 driving with him on it's maiden run around the neighbourhood. Such a sweet sound. He is now retired, living in cottage country north of Toronto, busy restoring vintage boats and still takes his 15 Model T on regular runs and trips. The car still has the same paint job he did 50 years ago.

I'm planning on visiting him and will take lots of photos.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

Here's a photo of a Model "T" made into a "POP-Corn Wagon" that I saw about 15 years ago while driving through Vermont State just south of Montreal. It was parked at a reasonably busy intersection in a small town.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

I was finally able to reduce the size of photos for posting. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images...s/Cheering.gif

I have absolutely mint copies of the 1915 October and November issue of the Canadian Issue of "FORD TIMES". One of my treasured old car literature.

The last two photos are on my Grandfathers early Model T when he was living
in Western Canada in the City of Winnipeg. Notice the Winter attire to keep the engine warm.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

I've purchased a great scanner for photos, slides and negatives so I'm in the process of rescanning this "FORD TIMES" publication and will post the complete issue.

I have the November copy as well and have scanned the major photos which are as follows.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

And another 10 pages.

Read the story below with the photo of the new house. Henry Ford extolled hard work and living the good life, ie. not drinking and smoking of this Sub-contractor who worked for the Ford Factory and grew his business to over 100 employees and was able to build this new home. Walkerville was apart of "Ford, Ontario" and later became a part of Windsor Ontario.

I grew up in the small town of Essex in the centre of Essex County which is located about 15 miles from Windsor and enjoyed driving through the area where Ford had built homes, schools and a library for his employees.

Essex County is the most southern part of Canada and actually is due south of the State of Michigan. It is one of the most fertile areas of Canada and with the Ford and Chrysler Automotive Plants located in Windsor with their high paying jobs, many of the farmers worked full time and their farms part time. I recall reading an article that the farmers of Essex County were best equipped of any in Canada.

Re: 1915 "FORD TIMES" - October, Canadian Issue

Well I've been finally able to up load this remarkable Booklet that illustrates the very sophisticate marketing of Ford Motors enabling them to dominate this emerging industry. A wonderful insight in the Man, his Cars and commitment to the common man.

I recently saw a 1 hour documentary of Henry Ford, son of a farmer born in 1863. With a grade 8 education and a brilliant mind his father permitted him to find work in Detroit at the age of 16. As he worked at various jobs he rose in position and respect. Drawn to the future of the horseless carriage, he built his first powered vehicle in 1898 and with it investors in his first venture, the Detroit Automobile Company. His vision was to build an inexpensive "Peoples Car" but his investors did not share his vision and the company closed in 1901. He founded Ford Motor company in 1903 and the rest is history!

I would encourage reading the story of his life which is equally inspiring and insightful. One of America's greatest and domineering Industrialists.
