The Gilmore Car Museum @ Michigan, USA

Earlier this year, when the temperature was dropping lower than ever before, I made a longish trip to the cold cold wolverine state of Michigan. Believe me when I say that winters here will ensure you remember God in more ways than one.

Towards the end of my 3 month trip I visited the Gilmore Car Museum which wasn’t very far from the city of Portage where I was based. So the last Sunday of my stay in US, we took this smallish 20 mile trip passing open fields, where the grass was getting its first peak at the sun and some warmth.

From the Website:-
“On a 90-acre historic campus midway between Detroit and Chicago is the Gilmore Car Museum. Here, visitors shoot the breeze in an old-fashioned gas station. Children stand inches from a 1930 Rolls-Royce that’s from a Disney® movie. Grandparents share stories about a ’57 Chevy, as their smiles are reflected in the car’s chrome. Stroll the campus. Eat lunch in our authentic Blue Moon Diner. Walk right up to an amazing collection of over 300 vintage automobiles, motorcycles, and memories. It’s America’s Signature Collection. And the ultimate experience for everyone in your family.”

Yours truly in front of the building which houses the beauties.

Awesome images, LSP!

Very disappointed that there were no photos of Dussenbergs. Maan, I love 'em!

Re: The Gilmore Car Museum @ Michigan, USA

Them Doozies are sure classy! Loved them even more than Caddys.

Appreciate your responsiveness, LSP! Thanks a lot.

I have the Packard emblem as a paper weight - my wife give it to me for one of my birthdays.

Did you get to see any of the steam cars? Did they have the Scarab or the Tucker. Some of the most innovative cars I have ever seen

Re: The Gilmore Car Museum @ Michigan, USA

As sridhu mentioned, gotta love 'em Doozies. Easily one of the classiest cars among the collection. I learned about the Duesenberg brand thanks to one of the episodes on Jay Leno's garage (a few years ago) and have a lot of respect for the Doozies ever since.

Even the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Concept car looks very interesting. Any more pictures of that?

Re: The Gilmore Car Museum @ Michigan, USA

Nice snaps.
I guess you were not able to see the entire area (barns) since its mainly closed till end of March every year. The other barns have a lot of other cars such as the Lincoln, Ford, Rolls Royce, Pierce Arrow and they have recently opened new barns for Cadillac and LaSalle (during 2nd week of August 2014). I had been to this place at least thrice during my stay at Kalamazoo. Absolutely beautiful classic car collections. They also have a collection of hot-rods which is just fantastic! Would post my snaps soon.
BTW, did you get a chance to visit the Duesenberg-Cord Museum in Auburn?
If not, I can put some snaps from that place as well!

Regards,
Sanket

Hi Sanket
I did visit the barns (except the newly opened) and those pics are coming on this thread shortly.
I did not visit the museum in Auburn nor am I aware of that. Please do start a thread for that museum. You are welcome to contribute to this thread as well.
Regards
