Scott (as a brand) is the best in the sense, nothing goes wrong. I have the Aspect for 5 years now. :)

I wouldn't say its the best for sure. Its one of the good brands, but in my opinion is still a level below the likes of Cannondale and Specialized, and even Trek. Scott I would put at the same level as Giant in the mass manufacturers list.

I used a Scott Sportster last year. Approximately 2000 odd kms. Solid bike. But neither the most comfortable nor fast. Not the lightest either.

When you ride roadies from the big manufacturers back to back, Scott (Speedsters) for some reason tend to have the harshest rides. Due in part to their oversized seat posts, but I'm sure the frames have a role to play there as well.

But yes. Scott do MTBs and Hybrids better than they do the roadies, though their Foil is world class and their Addict is very VFM in the entry carbon space.

Just my personal opinion based on my own experience. :)

I own a Specialized hybrid as well, and I agree with you - It's really good. That bike is a decade old. But please ride the Aspect from Scott, just once. Have no experience with Cannondale to comment. I almost picked up their Hybrid at a clearance sale in Bangalore, still regret letting it go

I've ridden the the entry level V-braked Aspect 680 of a friend. As I said earlier, its a solid bike. Takes punishment well, especially with big riders (like me) on top. That said, I'm not (or have not been) a MTB guy personally myself for a number of years now.

Speed, agility, handling, weight, aggression, these are what I look for in a bike.

I'm hoping to get all of these in my current new ride ...











And she takes over active duty now from this baby, who just completed 10,000 km a few days ago :)

She's a Cannondale CAAD8. With an entry level 8-speed Claris groupset. Retails for 65k. Only the Specialized Allez commands a similar premium.

Retailed for to be more accurate. Its now been replaced by the Optimo. And the Synapse.

I currently have a 2013 Firefox Target D 21S and am contemplating on a buying a new bike (MTB). I mostly use my MTB for on road purpose(90%) and sometimes some hard core off-road stuff(10%). I did think of shifting to a road bike but I find it very uncomfortable to ride.My road bike experience is based on a Btwin Triban 520 on which I did close to 80kms.
I'm open to any brand except Btwin/Rockrider and Firefox.
Btwin/Rockrider: I find their bikes to be a bit disconnected in terms of the riding feel.

Firefox: After sales in Bangalore is really bad:Frustrati. Sometimes the mechanic is on leave, no spare parts available whenever you call them up. This wasn't the case when I used to live in Gurgaon where the service was really good.

Budget: 30-50k.

If sales and service are important, head directly to any Track & Trail outlet. They're good in Bangalore. Choose between Cannondale and Schwinn. Sometimes they have clearance prices on a few models, that's the time to strike. I'd recommend Decathlon highly as well.

I would still recommend you stick with Decathlon, they have some pretty decent bikes and service would never be an issue and they offer lifetime warranty on their frames. Look at the ST100, great bike. They have a new range of bikes the RC500 and RC520 - these are like go anywhere bikes, the RC500 maybe just above your 50K budget. Else Decathlon have quite a few options in MTBs

Cycling Boutique, Bums on The Saddle, Jayant Cycles, RR cycles are the other well known places for branded MTBs - Trek, Cannondale, Montra, Giant etc.

Marin Bolinas Ridge (27.5) or San Rafael / San Anselmo (700c)

Orbea MX (not sure if they fit in your budget though)

Specialized Pitch (27.5) or Cross Trail (700c)

GT Karakoram or Zaskar (depending on what wheel size you prefer)

Merida Big Nine or Seven (wheel size preference) / Scott Aspect / Bergamont Vitox / Fuji Nevada / Giant Roam or Talon (wheel size preference)

Hi blackwasp, that hanger looks minimalist and cool. Is it custom-made or did you order it online? I am looking for a similar one as well.

Planning on upgrading to a road bike. My present ride is a Scott Sub Cross 40. Budget <60k. Preferably Carbon fork and Sora groupset(or better! I know very ambitious).
Any suggestions please?
