Re: Red Explorer | Story of my Btwin Rockrider 540 | A Long-Term Review

Great post

Looks like the Rockrider 540 available on Decathlon now is priced at INR 29,999 and comes with:
- Suntour XCT suspension with 100mm travel and also allows to lock suspension on flat roads
- It has a Shimano 2x9 speed gears vs. the the 1x9 earlier (Acera 2x9 shifters, Shimano Altus rear, Microshift FD front derailleur) and KMC X9 chain
- Coms with Ralson tyres now - which is a bummer

I see that you upgraded the drive train and brakes
- drivetrain to Shimano SLX M7000 which is has 10 speeds instead of 1; and chain to KMC X10
- brakes to the Shimano SLX M7000 for front and rear

In shimano hierarchy: drivetrain: looks like Tourney < Altus < Acera < Alivio < Deore M6000/7000 SLX < Deore XT < XTR. So clearly your choice of drivetrain was a great one

If I were to do the same thing, I would end up
- replacing the tyres, drivetrain and brakes - which is a lot
- these are all after-market fitments
So I thought to look at what options are available that come with better drivetrain, brakes and tyres than the above and wanted to get your thoughts

Below are alternate options

1. Marin Bobcat Trail 5:
This MTB comes with the Suntour XCR 32 120 mm travel suspension with lockout, KMC X11 chain, has the Shimano Deore 11-speeed casette, and MT 201 brakes. So the brakes are inferior to your upgrade. The tires seems be better than Decathlon
This costs INR 75K: https://bumsonthesaddle.com/products...rail-5-29black

2. Giant XTC Advanced
This comes with the same Shimano SLX M7000 that you upgrade to (M5100/M8000 front/rear which means 2x11 speeds), TRP Slate X2bbrakes and fork is a grade carbon fork but costs a whopping INR 1.5 Lakhs

3. Rockrider AM100S/ST 900 are not in India and ST900 production is stopped by Decathlon. If ST900 were to be back it would be value at INR 89K

4. Giant Fathom 2: has shimano Deore casette and https://www.cyclop.in/products/kona-...mtb-bike-green Kona Honzo has similar specs

But all these are closer to INR 1 lakh or more

Is there anything similar to your drive train + brake combo that is available as a MTB in India for like INR 70K types? I think it is better to buy pre-assembled vs. buy this way

Re: Red Explorer | Story of my Btwin Rockrider 540 | A Long-Term Review

I finally picked up a Bwin XC100 Rockrider for INR 99999
With an air fork, Shimano Deore 5100 11-speed drive train and Tektro M276 hydraulic disc brakes, it was difficult to beat on specs
