Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

Either he's messed up the model number, or he's trying to pull a fast one on you. Did you actually see the head unit? Verify the series on it.

Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

No i spoke to him just now and he was telling it is Pioneer 149. He told it is the same as 2390 but this is 2012 series with just cosmetic change.
Nah have not yet seen the unit. Will go and check it tomorrow.

The JBL has a upper hand over the Pioneer if you compare the features.

JBL HU has 3 RCA pre-outs of 4V and supports SD card along with USB and AUX-in, whereas, the Pio HU has just 1 RCA pre-out of 2V and supports USB & AUX-in but not SD card.

As far as SQ is concerned, listen to both of them, i.e. in case you are satisfied with the features of the 149UB.

Hope it helps.

Thanks dude, but i am kinda slightly put off listening to the issues people are facing with 555. I mean shuffling, issues with ipod, usb drive etc.
But yeah no SD card is making me think about 149 again.

...........
True. These issues have certainly brought second thoughts to our minds regarding the JBL HU. Hope the tech guys at JBL sort these issues out in their upcoming productions.

Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

Try auditioning the systems first. Doesn't seem to be very different from the middle orders of Pio. I settled for DEH-6390SD for our Etios for - quality production of sound, 5 band equalizer, SD capability (behind the face plate), iPhone/iPod capability if reqd, dual line text information, 3 pre-outs of high volt 4V and direct sub-woof control from unit when reqd in future etc. Gradually moved selection to this model from 2390UB to 4390UB to 6390SD. Cost marginally high at Rs 8990/- at the dealership. Kenwood's similar alternative are pretty good too on sound production.

Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

I think you should check out JVC,Pio and Kenwood - do a feature vs price comparison, check out what you actually need and then take a call ; my personal experience with JVC is v.v good

Thanks guys. But the thing is i need a basic HU which has USB and which can play ipod.
Checked both 149 and 555 yesterday. Must say JBL sounded much better than Pioneer. But i may still go with Pio cos of the issues with JBL HU

I could not find any JVC under 5k.

Final quote of HUs i have got is:
JBL 555- 4750/-
Pio 149- 4400/-

If only you could let us know the rest of your setup, it would really help in deciding which HU to go for.

IMO, you should also think about future upgrades which can be done to the setup without changing the HU.

For example: If you plan on adding subs and components, then atleast 2 pre-outs are required (please correct me if I am wrong).

Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

^^ agreed

The 149 has only one pre-out ; so upgrades are no no ; 2 pre-outs are the bare minimum for a decent amp+sub upgrade ; I am using a 2 pre-out set up

Re: Pioneer 149 (???)

If you wish to have good SQ with Aux/MP3/USB then go with JVC -426 its the best in its class under 4k

Yes 2 Pre outs are needed for any upgrade from current one. But i am not much of an ICE person, so just needed something which plays my ipod ans USB. Not looking for any upgrade in this car.

Now that looks like a good deal.
I have called up a lot of places and all were just talking about 555 and 149/2390. They were telling there is nothing under 5k which has USB
