STAGE - II ICE upgrade :: Rear Speakers and Sub

Hello Gurus,

I have already done the STAGE-1 with minor upgrades. Here is what I have at present,

Amp - JBL GTO 1004
Front Components - Infinity Kappa 60.9
HU - JBL X333
Rear - CEDIA stock speakers powered by HU
Sub - none

2 channels from the amp are already used for front components. Original plan was to bridge the other 2 channels for the Sub and run the rear speakers directly from HU.

Change in plan and now I am looking for an upgrade for the rear speakers and sub. If I have to attach new rear speakers to GTO 1004, I will need to add another monoblock for the sub.

Considering all these, I am keeping a budget of around 25k-35k.
80% of the time I listen to Hindi music. The rest goes to FM and other regional songs.

My preference is more for a crisp and balanced sound.

Looking for suggestions on,

1. rear coax speakers (6.5") - will be attached to GTO 1004
2. 12" sub (preferably detachable)
3. Monoblock amp

Does the Cedia provide for ovals in the rear?I believe you should get a pair of ovals and not 6.5".

Rear is round in CEDIA. Any reason you suggested oval?

^^ just that ovals work better in a boot, especially in the absence of a sub since the cone area is larger ; so more air displacement

In your case,6.5" coaxes off the amp and a 12" sub off a mono should work well ;

You can check out the new JBL BassPro12(which I believe is an amp +sub in one)

Re: STAGE - II ICE upgarde :: Rear Speakers and Sub

I would not buy a monoblock. Save the cash. And use it to damp the front doors if not already done.

Step 1.
- Damp front doors.
- Bridge the remaining two channels of the 1004 (280W?) to drive the sub.
- Drive the new rear speakers directly from the HU.

Hear how this setup sounds to you.

If dissatisfied
Step 2:
- Get a basic 2 channel amp (60W-70W) to drive the rears.

Thanks shuvc. This kind of makes sense to me too. I can do it in stages. I would rather go with Sub on 1004 as of now.

Do you have any suggestions on Sub?
Also the rear speakers?.

I'm not too clued into the current products. You could however JBL'fy your ride !

I use an earlier version of this sub in one car. It's entry level but good VFM. The 1004 will also supply enough juice to it.

JBL CS 1215

And JBL rears too.
JBL GT6-S366

These + damping + a 2 channel (if you want too) should cost you less than 20K !
