I intended to get a double layer (inside door level 2 and outside level 1). So instead of going in for extra thick (2.1mm+) I opted for 2 mm ones. It would be a good trade off for price vs layering.

I zeroed down on Blaupunkt.

I also got the dampening done for my Seltos and installed the STP Silver, which has improved both the sound system and the NVH levels.

Dampening all four doors will cost approximately ₹12,000 to ₹15,000. A pack of STP Silver, which includes 10 sheets of 2mm thickness, costs around ₹10,000. For each door, you will need about 2 to 3 sheets. I opted for two-layer dampening on both the inside and outside of the doors.

Have you got dB levels before and after the sound deafening. That is the evidence required for convincing me and maybe others. Also one needs the reduction achieved across the audible sound spectrum.

I can point out dozens of YouTube videos on sound deadening where the actual effect is reduction of 3 dB after extensive work including boot, floor, doors etc. Subjective result is good for those who are spending the moolah. It is still a question mark for me!

Agree that it makes a difference. However, like 0-100 in 10 secs statistic we must know whether it is worth the spend! Maruti's of yore had hardly any sound insulation. The sheet metal was also thin so lots of noise, vibration and other noise was there. In the more recent versions - other than entry level models Suzuki's have reasonable NVH. Anyhow after months of reading and watching videos by auto buffs my conclusion is that the benefit is mostly cosmetic and of course 'placebo' effect.

After every new version or beta of Android people say our battery life is better and the UI is much smoother. Of course much of it is placebo effect as after a day or two one cannot see the difference anymore!

To check if its worth it, get a demo and decide. Cant say that on statistics. This also majorly depends on the quality of sheets and your expectations.

Hey I don't doubt what you are saying. I am sure you felt the difference. As someone correctly pointed out if the original car has very poor NVH then some damping will surely feel good.

I am an engineer with decent knowledge of audio and noise. I know that subjective tests are not generally applicable. It is not predicated on proper measurements which can give confidence to everyone. To each his own and I wish you good listening in your car.

Could be someone overtaking at night at high speed.

Damping does not muffle sounds like what you've mentioned. If anything, it takes away the background noise and makes sharp noises like honking even clearer to hear.

This is not sound-proofing.

Are even the poshest cars soundproof? Especially on our roads, it could be very dangerous. It is not the intention here.

I sold the Maruti btw. It was having CTK sheets. My current car uses Ousail sheets in front and Morel sheets in rear and boot.

Had my relatives car floor damped and the suspension noise were small thud on potholes. Road noise had a significant decrease.

Cannot express the comfort of the above factors in db levels, as they are solely reducing the noise frequencies and not doing much to the rest. Hope you have a good day.

I have a 15 years old, 1.27 lakh kms done, extremely well maintained, single hand driven Tata Safari DICOR, our beloved black beauty, which obviously now has much increased noise, then what was a few years ago.

Wanted to know, will it make a recognizable difference if damping is done on it? Not expecting a new car like feel, but reducing outside noise (tires, road, engine clatter, etc) considerably for better comfort.

Will it be worth the efforts and expenses?
