Hi people . How many members are using 3-way system in there cars.
Plz tell us about the make, Installation way, Performance, Diff between 2-way and 3-way etc. as much info u can give.....

most of them use 6x9 at rear.

Sorry people I meant the 3-way componet kit not a complete 3-way speaker......

Actually, yes Infinity does have a 3 way component system and so do a few other manufacturers, but I'd like to clear a misconception once and for all.

If you use a subwoofer and a set of components that is called a 3 WAY SYSTEM! Regardless of brand, if your audio is divided into 3 different "ways" - Your low frequencies (read 80/100Hz and below) go to a subwoofer, your mid bass (read 80/100Hz to about 3/4/5K depending on the crossover design) and the highs (3/4/5K-20K) to the tweeters.
Ergo this IS a 3 way system na?

If you use a component set and no subwoofer, thats a 2 way system.

Is it so?? I always thought that this is called 3-way mode and 3-way system is like having 3 components,each for high freq,mid-range & mid-bass.

If i am wrong,then should i set my xover settings on HU to 3-way from currently set 2-way??

well, yes and no.
Literally speaking, a 3 way "system" is an ideally matched component set, where the sound is divided using passive crossovers (provided by the manufacturer) into 3 different speakers.
But in actuality, when you have 3 different speakers playing 3 different sounds, that too is a 3 way system.
The only difference is that the crossing over is done electronically into TWO ways - the Lows are electronically sent to the subwoofer amplifier and the mids+highs are sent to the comoponent amplifier and then to a passive crossover which is supplied with your 2 way component system.
So though the division (electronically) is done into 2 ways (bass and mid/high), the mid/high is further divided into mids and highs using a passive network.
Umm... The End.

People I am talking about this type of 3 way not the above u mentioned.

yes sir U got it right any other models u have used or listened. I am interested to get them installed in my car. I have a swift the tweeter is no problem the woofer is no problem but the mid range where do we place it huge problem. Please other people in this fourm wake up and suggest any other models and there reviews...........

There is a variety of 3-Way components available, It all depends on a person's listening preference.

Here are the merits and demerits of 3-Way over 2-Way front stage :

Merits :

• Soundstage height and depth is more
• Imaging is better
• Better midrange transparency and speed
• Integration between tweeter and midrange gets better as you can place midrange driver close to the tweeter
• More balanced sound as there is dedicated driver for reproducing the three crucial elements of sound midbass, midrange, treble. Hence there is nothing lacking in reproducing each one of them.

All the above merits are good for SQ system.

Demerits :

• Needs more powerful good 2 channel amplication for the front, anywhere from 100W-300W
• Problem in installation of midrange driver. And also the placement, the midrange can suffer if it is prone to reflective areas.
• Installation needs lot of time and experimentation before the final fitting to get the best results

The points above u have given are well known to me. I have two main problem

1) Which model and make to use
2) Placement of the mid range in my swift....

Rest any advice please feel free ..........

Also for the power I am getting alpine MRV-F545 I think it will be sutaible for the job......

If you know the points well that I have mentioned and you are looking for them seriously then I don't think you should have problems in choosing a 3-Way system for yourself.

The installation part all depends upon what system you pick and the type of midrange driver used (cone, dome, ribbon, horn etc.)

Man thats why I have started this thread I need to know models based on people experience which they have used so that they could comment on the same.......

Thats a nice choice. This set will work well for you. Those are scanspeak drivers and used in some of the best speaker systems made. also have a look at the 'Focal Be' set. Fanatically expensive, but very nice.

The 545 is a wimpy amplifier for this application. Get a good 2 channel amp with atleast 200w cont into 4 ohms per side.
