1. It can sound good if the install is done well - aka damping, fitting, good wires etc..

2. An amp is not necessary but it will help.

3. Hertz have a very different sound signature from Infinity. Listen to both and choose what YOU prefer.

4. When you use an amp you need RCA wires from the HU to the amp. When you do not use an amp all you need are speaker wires.

5. Negotiate th cost with at least 2 dealers, preferably 3.

6. Each front door will need a component set (woofer and tweeter). Each rear doo will need a coax set. So you will need 4 speakers sets in all. Fortunately Hertz, Infinity and just about everybody sells speakers in pairs so you will need 2 pairs. 1 component set pair and 1 coax set pair.

FYI: When you buy the Component set you will find 2 funny looking black boxes with about 6-8 screw type connetors in the box. Do NOT throw these away (like a friend of mine did with the packaging). You need these boxes for the woofer and tweeter. Your installer will know what to do. If he does not PLEASE find an installer who does.

there are umpteen threads on great audio set ups in the old Swift ; the same would hold good for the new one.

I am planning to put a sub which can go under the driver seat of my swift. Got an option of arc audio active sub for 16k . Looks very sinilar to xenos active sub. Need advice on the options available for under seat installs. Also any one came across the arc audio sub if so how is the quality

Need your help here in improving the bass effect in my Swift VDi

This was my initial set up:

Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P3200BT
Door Speakers: JBL (Normal door speakers)
Rear Speakers: Coaxial JBL 210W

Recently I upgraded the Door speakers to Component Spearkers and the rear Coaial to Pioneer.

Here is my current set up:

Head Unit: Pioneer AVH-P3200BT
Component Speakers: INFINITY REF6530CS
Rear Speakers: Pioneer TS A934H (500 W)

Due to the upgrade to the component speakers and the rear more powerful coaxial’s I don’t deny the fact that there is a huge improvement in the sound quality. However I am still not able to get the optimum bass. I am now planning to go for a 2-channel JBL amp and a Pioneer/JBL 1300 W Sub. The 2 channel will drive the sub alone.

I am not sure if this would be an ideal upgrade with the limited budget I have. Could you please guide me on how to go about this? Also it would be great if you could also suggest on the recommended brands for the amp/sub.

At 75% of the cost of a 4-ch amp, a 2-ch amp does not make much sense. Instead, get an economical 4-ch amp and connect the sub AND the front components to it. A decent 4-ch amp should cost you 4.5-5.5K (JBL, Pio, Sony etc.). Amping the fronts will get you a bit more bass from them. You will also need to reckon with cables and labor. Some damping will also help, at least in the front doors and the boot lid.

For sub, avoid a tube. Instead, get a pre-built ported box from JBL or Polk. Polk also has a small sealed box with 8" woofer which may be you can fit under the front seat - will not go really gut-shaking low, but good enough if you are on a budget.

Couple of questions.

1. Could you please explain how the amping of the components helps increasing the bass? I was under the impression most of the bass comes out from the rear coaxials. Considering the set up that I have (500W Coaxials at the rear), would it not make sense to amp the rear?

2. Need your advice on the type of sub. Should I go for a sub with the custom built box or the ones that come prebuilt? There is a model available in Sony which comes with the pre-built box. (I am not referring to the tube)

3. I also need your advice on damping. I have heard a lot about it but not sure how it can be done.

This is the first time i am posting here.
I got my ICE installed almost 9 months back. I was pretty stupid back then about audio and i think i got cheated.
The front components installed were JBL i think GTS 265 C. the crossover is as small as a pendrive.
For the rear fills there are jbl coaxials.
I have an MTX subwoofer with its own ported enclosure.
A pioneer headunit and a sony 4 channel amp.
Let me start of by saying that i was happy in the beginning, but now im simply annoyed with the sound. its just too bright. The treble hurts my ears and the bass is flabby and the bass also clips.
Im attaching some pics of the equipment i have.
please suggest an upgrade without changing the HU or the amp.
Also please take into consideration that my max budget is 11K

:) Your listening tastes have matured, so you should be happy for that!

1. Bass: can't expect anything else from a tube. The clipping may be due to a high gain setting. Q&D solution: stuff some old socks rolled up in a tight wad up the bass port (the side opposite the sub). This should reduce the 'flabbyness', and also reduce the clipping (does it sound like slapping?). The side effect will be it will reduce the loudness of the bass, but that may not necessarily be bad, up to a limit you can increase the gain at the amp to compensate. While this will not drastically improve the bass, this should do while you build up the budget to replace the tube with a decent sub in a sealed box

2. Treble: now this is a rather tricky problem, since this is an inherent property of those components. The solution (again, apart from replacing the components) is to either pad the XO, or another Q&D solution: add a couple of layers cloth in front of the tweeter. You could also reduce the Treble at the HU (Parametric Equalizer)

You can do it yourself - try it.

BTW, what is that red wire with a terminal lug not connected anywhere (in front of the sub)? Better cover it with electrical tape to prevent something untoward happening in future.

The red wire is just a spare. not connected anywhere. :P
I would like to upgrade the sub and the componenets. could you please suggest a combination.
I had a look at the boston compos today as well as a JBL Subwoofer with an enclosre(the one with the 2 bars as the speaker grille)

DA, Sometimes I wish I could be happy with a set of Acoustimass speakers like most of my friends and relatives are. This "maturing" thing is a curse - we the affected (or infected) dream of Sonus Faber and Martin Logan. It is curse I tell you.

Some XO's have a -3db terminal for the tweeter section. Check your XO.

A spare for what? Power? Dont leave it hanging like that.

1. Components: Boston is good. Audition Infinity Reference, Morel Maximo, Bull, Auditor, Polk (the db series, not the Momo series) etc.

2. Sub: Audition others first - Infinity Reference, Polk, Bull etc. in a sealed box. Some are available in a pre-built sealed box, for others one can get a suitable local MDF box
