Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

I've seen that the best song to show off heavy bass is "Titanium by David Guetta Feat. Sia".
Some really powerful bass near the 1 minute mark and followed by some crystal clear vocals if you have the equipment for it

Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

Why nobody mentions about our music ? There are very good music which could be used to test capabitilties of our systems . Like 1) Kathalan sangeethame (kadhalan) it can be used to test low,mid bass ,vocal and high . 2) pranaya mani thuvalkozhiyum (Azhakiya ravanan) 3) yeh hasin vadiya (roja) 4) Rah mein unse (vijaypath) excellent vocal and instruments . 5) chura ke dil mera . I have listened all these songs from CD which was digitally mastered abroad . Nowadays it is very difficult to find tracks with such quality . I urge everyone to test their ICE with the best available music in uncompressed format .

Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

Found this track stashed somewhere in my laptop. Just going over it in loops.
I remember showing off the Stock ICE of my Beat by playing this track in loops, when the movie (Jism2) was just launched.
Will play it again today while going back home from work.

Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

My choices for auditioning ICE or any other audio setups -

1. Aaj ki raat (Don)
2. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Rock Version)
3. Amplifier (Imran Khan)
4. Rehna Tu (Delhi 6)

As mentioned by a fellow Team-BHPian, the best source to audition is an uncompressed audio CD. Randomly downloaded (read pirated) copies of music do not do justice to the manufacturer's, owner's and installer's efforts.

Best song for a bass test IMO:
Incredible by Carnage & Borgore.

This song should have been the theme song for the movie "Drive Angry"

Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

Quite funny that most of the systems actually have absolutely trashy midrange reproduction. I guess that is preferred by most of the people because most of the people neither sing (voice = mid range), nor do they play any musical instrument (most instruments like guitar, piano, saxophone, trumpet, violin, ... = mid range). Hence they have zero expectation.

I have yet to hear a car audio system where the vocals sounded like actual person in front of me. Where the guitar sounded like someone actually playing.

And to top is, the over exaggerated bass and treble makes everything sound so fake!

Re: BEST SONG for showing off/demoing Car Stereo

I have spent a significant amount of time reading the posts in this thread, and one thing strikes me: You are not buying a sound studio where everything has to be absolutely true-to-life - you are buying a car where you might spend a relatively not significant portion of your life, and a portion that is sound-tracked by whatever's going on outside your car windows, not to mention the road-noise, tyre-roar, wind-noise, engine-noise etc.

How many of us really own music that is actually clean - meaning studio masters? How many of you even own headphones or home audio equipment that's studio-monitor quality (meaning, you hear exactly what the sound engineer intended and nothing else)? So, why are you looking for a car that gives you a sound studio? More so, how does any of you even know what the sound engineer intended you to hear?

The way I look at it is as follows:

I am buying a car, I listen to music I like, I need the car's system to reproduce my music as close to my home system or my studio-monitor headphones as possible, given the caveat that most (not all) of my listening is on my iPod with my CDs burnt at 320kbps (yeah I know it's lossy though it says Apple Lossless, but I don't care).

I am happy as long as there is no noticeable loss of quality. I seriously cannot identify a defect in the audio-quality when I am in the middle of a corner where I am trying to protect my place or gain a position on the inside of someone else or trying my best to prevent a stupid two- or three-wheeler from nosing in on my Left to gain a position on me or doing a high-speed run through traffic. And I doubt more than three and a half people in the whole world can recognise bad audio in similar situations.

So, just buy a car for its drivability than for its audio system.

Now, if this thread were talking about evaluating a home audio system, I take back everything (well, almost everything) I said. For me, listening to music (at home) is an exclusive activity when nothing else happens. I have my headphones on, I get lost in my music. That's when I use my studio monitors. And at those times, I have my eyes closed, doing nothing else. Listening to music is an active activity for me, meaning, it is a project. That's when I care about listening to as many sounds (as intended by the sound engineer) as possible. Incidental listening to music while other things are happening, is like White noise, just like a wedding-reception carnatic musician or a band - not really listening.

All of the above being said, I do have a list of songs I use to test a car stereo (please note, just car stereo, not a home system - I am NOT an audiophile). Ask me if you're really interested, but remember, that's just my list.

That's my dose of reality for today. Cheers.

So, with all the above being said, nothing in that post relates to the thread actually?

Mayank, sorry, I thought the thread was about car audio, and my rant was about all of that (at least I thought so). If my post was not about car audio and music related to testing that, please enlighten me - I honestly do not wish to be off topic even when I am ranting.

Cheers
