Navin, JB has set gain controls on amplifier to abt 1/2 for door speakers and 2/3rd for subw in sealed box.
I have played my system at full volume [35] few times for just few seconds, and speakers & subw have never distorted.

The difference in gain must be to allow for difference in the sensitivities of the speakers and the subwoofer.

Or, you must be using two different brands/ lines of amplifcation for the speakers and sub respectively, and hence they have different input sensitivities.

If you are using the same brand/ line of amplification for speakers and subs (here I am only trying to imply that the input sensitivity range is the same), then you dont need to keep the gains different. You can keep the gains to correspond to the stipulated head unit pre-out voltage, or lower, and adjust for varying speaker sensitivites by trimming the respective channels, as can be accomplished with the crossover function in Alpine head units, and some Pioneers like the 9650 etc.

and can anybody give some tips to reduce distortion at high volumes.
like using quality cable and better amps etc

Hi,

In all probabilities it is because of the battery eliminator not being able to handle the power. In showroom demo units are never meant to play at very high volumes.

B&T, i have Infinty kappa 60.7components [2ohm]at front and its coax version 62.7[2ohm]at rear with 10"infinty 1040 subw [4ohm] in sealed box, powered by 6-ch JL audio E6450 amplifier and all audison wiring.

So obviously i am using 4 channels for all door speakers and rest two in bridged mode for subw.

The Master did this setting using only three tools---one hand, two ears and stuff between those ears. and i was lot happier after that.

I also tried to it myself [but permanant marked JB's settings with marker b4 i proceded] using test tone at different freq but could not do it,though not sure why......

Hmm yeah, the sensitivities of all the speakers/ sub would be different, plus the sub traverses the largest distance to get to you.

I dont understand why you use a test tone to set the gains on amplifiers driving speakers/ subs which play different bands of frequencies and do not overlap at all.

For example, if you used a 1kHz tone and listened, only the speakers would be playing it, not the sub. So whats with that?

Sir? anyway I give up trying to be called Navin.

It is a scary day when my posts make more sense than yours. If you look at the archives Sam used to have to translate my initial posts. If there is one thing I learnt on this forum is that not everyone made amplifiers at age 9! :-)
