Bumping a very old thread.
What options are available for shallow mount subs these days? 10 or 12 inch size.
Prices, and any reviews would be very helpful.

Ok! Now tell me which ones I should look at

B&T is trying to find me an Illusion Luccent sub, but these are, apparently, a very rare species.

Yes, I was looking at the RF. The sub+box is very expensive though. I am looking for something cheaper.

Here's a very neat install using this sub box. Fitted on the tailgate of a jeep - should be replicable in other SUVs.
JK Subwoofer - JkOwners.com - The Community for Jeep JK 4x4 Owners

This is the kind of install I plan to do in my Scorpio (8-seater), with a shallow sub and a custom made MDF box.

Any feedback on the Kicker CompVT shallow subs? How they perform, how much they cost?

Yup, that's the Kicker I was looking at.
Also saw these 2 RF shallow mount subs:
Rockford Fosgate P3SD412 Punch Stage 3 Shallow 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com
Rockford Fosgate P3SD212 Punch Stage 3 Shallow 12" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com
Any feedback on these?

Both are 12" shallow mount subs, but one has dual 4-ohm voice coils while the other has dual 2-ohm voice coils. Can someone explain the difference between these, what kind of amp would I need to drive them to get the best out of them etc?

Definitely less than 10k. The lesser the better. The RF sub (brand new) would cost me about Rs 5.5k shipped in the US, but it'll be hard getting someone to carry back a 12" subwoofer. :(

Hi Razor - thats a neat tailgate install. Its got me thinking about the possibility of doing a similar install in a friend's palio.

I was looking at Component Subwoofers at Crutchfield.com and they also have some shallow mount Alpine Subs.

Why not an 8inch? Blau has some shallow ones but not sure how they should.

Kicker one costs 18k or so and IIRC we have it in a DEzire at TBHP.

One 8 inch sub won't suffice, especially in a Scorpio.

18k for the 12" Kicker?

Re: Shallow-Mount Subwoofers

Guru's am waking up an old thread.

I have recently purchased the ANHC. The car comes with a ordinary sounding music system. I just recently replaced the factory system with an Alpine IXA-407bt Multimedia center. I also have replaced the front speakers with Focal Polyglass 165VB components powered by a kenwood 4 channel amplifier. There is a world of a difference in the sound and the components offer a decent low end bass too.

I am fond of deep bass and cant really do without a woofer, i donot wish to sacrifice the boot space for a woofer and have hence decided to add another pair of Polyglass components or a good 6" co-axials at the rear. I have also read about shallow mount sub's which can be accomodated below the front seats, i am very keen on installing the sub's.

Can the guru's help me out with this please.

Re: Shallow-Mount Subwoofers

Speed-Freak, what's your budget and what kind of power will you be feeding it? Do you plan to get a separate mono amp for the sub or do you want to bridge the rear channels of your kenwood amp to power the sub?

If you will be using a separate mono amp, you can consider the following-
Alpine SWR-T12 (600w RMS)- 21,000 Rs.
Rockford P3SD412 (400w RMS)- 12,000 Rs.
Kenwood XR-W12F (450w RMS)- 16,000 Rs.
MB Quart RLP304 (300w RMS)- 10,000 Rs.
Pioneer TS-SW3001S4 (400w RMS)- 12,000 Rs.

Out of these I have heard only alpine and pioneer and the alpines were in a different league alltogether. They pound nearly as hard as a normal Type R sub but then they are over priced in my opinion.
