I did not go for the VW Voice Activation and frankly I do not want it for the 9K extra for this. Instead the Voice Activation button calls up Siri, which works well.

Also the audio through the cable sounds atleast 40% better than through bluetooth so that was an added bonus of activating carplay.

Apple Maps with Turn Directions has now been enabled for India. Works even with car play. Traffic and Public transport will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
I used it on the jetta and it is as accurate as Google Maps. So now Indian commuters are spoiled for choice, we have Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze for CarPlay.

Attaching below a pic of Apple Maps in Carplay.

I did not go for the VW Voice activation feature. On activating Carplay , the button for voice activation invokes Siri. This is all that is required to be useful. You can request songs on apple music with this button.

Is the voice activation feature working for you with the voice control button on the wheel ?

Does anyone here get blackouts and frequent app crashes on Android Auto. It has driven me nuts. I'd probably post screenshots sometime later.

AA keeps working and will suddenly crash with a message, 'Device not Recognized'. When it works AA is fantastic but it just crashes so often that you simply cannot rely on it.

Do I have to buy the USB part if I want to use Android phone? I suppose USB cable is for iPhones.

USB Part is not required for Android Phones.

Hi
Finally succeeded in installing and using car-play in the VW jetta MIB2 unit.
Had to procure VCDS cable from Ali express.
However, now the feature is enabled and working

I am a bit late to the party here, but could you share the part numbers you procured to get this to work and the costs? Further, some notes on why the VCDS cable was needed and the settings you toggled to enable this? My queries are specifically for the 2016 Jetta with the MIB2.

Hi

The part numbers required are as under

1. App Connect package, part number 5G0054830A
2. USB Port, part number 5NA057342A

There are settings in the VCDS, which is required to enable Apple car play.
The service centre staff dont generally agree or appreciate the research we do to make this work, they try all else, excepting the settings we mention. Therefore i had to get the VCDS cable.
For the actual settings, i will need sometime to get the screen shots.

Thanks
Prashanth

Hi Prashanth,
Need your help for the Apple car play feature on a friends MY16 Jetta (MIB II). He is not a member of forum so sent the details related to the hardware over Whatsapp. He is following this thread so kindly help him out how to enable it in his car. He tried to get in touch with VW service center but the guys there are clueless.

Question here is how and where the new port need to be fixed. Do we need to remove the current usb and aux port.

USB Part No. 5NA 057 342A

Edit: If possible kindly attach the picture of your setup where you have added the USB.

Attached pics for reference.

Can you please post vcds steps? Would be grateful

Did anyone from Bangalore succeed in getting the App Connect package enabled? If yes, which service centre did you visit for this?

Anybody got this done in Mbai ?
