Hi Parth,

wish you and your family the same.

It's not a good ambition this, that your neighbours should listen to your car. Still we can't stop you can we.
I suggest you open up the packed boxes of your 6X9's and install them in MDF enclosures. (OK sorry, really bad joke)

8K for an amplifier and woofer is not much of a budget really. You could get a pioneer woofer with a Sony amplifier.

Parth baba, the tube costs 6500/- That wont leave you much money for the amplifier na?
If you can stretch to 10.5 you can get the tube with a cheaper sony/pioneer 2 channel amp.

Parth's queries have got me thinking. I am getting a new car (Petra) in a week's time. I listen to pretty quiet music, blues mostly and a bit of rock, and I do not intend to share my music with all and sundry. So, I may not need a separate amp. But I was thinking of filling up the provisions provided in the car, which is space for two rear speakers, to front door speakers, nto more than 4" in dia (I think) and two A pillar mounted tweeters.
Can the experts (Sam and Navin have been posting on this thread) give me some advice on models? If it is of any help, I am not too keen on loud bass sounds. I have always liked Sony sound with all of bass, midrange and treble sounding clear.
Thanks in advance.

You can get fine sound with a pair of 6x9 in the rear. try and shoe horn a pair of 5" components in the front. You can get these for about 10K and up (componenets and 6x9). Add a good HU (6K +) and you should be set.

Sony makes decent HUs. Their speakers however can be bettered.

As with cars, so with ice, I am a complele novice. I know Bowers and Wilkins and Bose are great speakers, I used to enjoy (still do) Sony sound quality. I know very little about car audio, and frankly, the levels of discussions you people have in the Ice sections on this forum, pass way over my humble head.
So, all I understand is a head unit that can play CD's and probably connect a USB mp3 player, and speakers that feel like sound is being generated all around the cabin, and no single area in particular.
Also, I do not want to disturb the neat sparse look of the existing cabin. So, Navin, I might not take your advice regarding stuffing Hardy in Laurel's seat, but do you think having a 3-4" speakers in the door and tiny tweeters in the A pillars will sound nice?
Or do you really recommend 5" for a sizeable improvement in their place?

Sony car speakers aren't really nice. And if I am not wrong the petra can take a 5.25" component set in the front quite well.

If Bose is so far down the rankings with you, then Sam, do Sony speakers feature anywhere on your list? As I said, I am a complete novice, and even the tiny Bose speakers I have heard seemed pretty impressive to me. Maybe I need to have my ears dewaxed or something.

BTW, we have JBL speakers in our office, and they too are pretty good.

But speaking of car speakers, I haven't really measured the Petra front speaker space, and you definitely know speakers better, so going on a budget of 15-20 k, if I want to get a head unit that can play MP3 CD's and also connect to my usb player, and like Navin suggested, 6X9 at the rear and 5" and tweeters in the front, could you suggest makes? And anything else I need to pay attention to?
Thanks again.

If your budget is 20K for everything (HU + 4 speakers) consider this...
HU: 8.5K Sony, Blaupunkt, Pioneer, etc...
Front components 5": 5.5K JBL, Hertz, Alpine, etc...
Rear Coax 6x9: 5K same as above
Install: 1K.

Thanks Navin, that is a great help. But tell me one thing, are tweeters (I have seen tiny ones placed right in the front in many cars) really of no consequence? None of you seem to mention them anywhere.
