Kicker and SQ?

Does Kicker make any SQ oriented woofer? Most of it applications that I have seen/heard are SPL. Would like to know the "tendancy" of similar drivers, if there is any. (Say, the 05CVR104, 4 ohm DVC)

All the new lines of Kicker are inclined towards SPL and display moderate SQ. It works well though, since SPL is a bigger market worldwide than sheer SQ is.

A kicker SPL sub (Except for the SoloX) if fitted in a compact sealed enclosure can produce some pretty decent SQ, I have seen some people use them is 6.1 setups in cars, but if you a hardcore SQ person, then Kicker is not the way to go.

Kicker Coaxials?

How is sound quality from Kicker Coaxials? Like LBM mentioned Kicker and SQ does not go hand in hand - is this true for coax also? Even the latest ones?

Kicker woofers are not value for money, they are way too expensive for the kind of sound they produce. I personally didnt even find the compos to be termed as good either.

My friend is going to buy a 4" co-ax for Alto.

He is having two 4" options :

1. Kicker

2. JBL GT5

Which one should he go for since both of them are similarly priced@Rs.1300 ?

Both r good brand. Take audition of both, otherwise GTO/GT-5 JBL, Polk db401 and Blaupunkt GTx/THx have good note in 4"Cox section.

But I've heard that Kicker concentrates more on SPL than on SQ. Is that true ?

I heard MTX 812 sub and Kicker L5 before buying ...

Kicker is not at all for SQ and is purely made for SPL lover.

Kicker lacks "KICK" but is good for deep bass , but MTX has good kick & goes low as well

Try MTX !!

well to be honest everywhere else SPL is just when you have a system that is a one note wonder that will burp frequencies in competitons and is designed and tuned to only play at the vehicles resonant frequency which actually adds around 10 db's more to your SPL numbers

whereas what you are terming an SQL setup would be called a ground pounder elsewhere because even though it has loud bass it wont be able to pull off huge SPL numbers. In fact some cars that pound so loud that it turns your stomach actually will give you very low SPL numbers because the system is not tuned toward playing only the specific frequencies that will make the vehicle resonate hence create the extra energy at the required frequency to give a large amount of sound pressure

In South Africa thats how they differentiate and here we have guys who specialise in using computer modelling programs to design and tune their enclosures to give huge SPL numbers - in fact there were many SPL world records set here - only thing is those are reset each year. As an example the highest SPL number recorded here in SA is 179.9db and there are certain rookie cars that are actually approaching 150db legally ie with ports that are legal and no modifications to the vehicle ... note that these numbers were done with calibrated audiocontrol meters as per IASCA rules (has to be calibrated for world record runs) and we have around 4 or 5 events per year where records can be set hence are judged with the calibrated meters
