Creative XmoD?

Xmod - Makes your MP3s sound better than CDs

All hype or does it really work?

What about their claim of making a regular Mp3 sound better than an Audio CD...??

(oohh boyy...I really DID choose the right time to post this....)

This was a very controversial product when it came out. Most tech-blogs made a lot of fun of it even before it came out officially.

I remember CNET reviewed it and said it actually made mp3s sound better. For all other purposes, it is just like an external sound-card, but a very good one at that. And it does take aux-in input from a standalone MP3 player/other audio source too.

Anybody using one here?

EDIT: CNET's review: Creative Xmod Reviews. External Audio Adapters Reviews by CNET.

I have not used Xmod but, I have a X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS sound card on my PC. If I am not mistaken, it is the same crystalizer technology used in Xmod. My views on the Crystalizer is that it works, especially on old low bit rate mp3. I won't say that it is better than CD. But, it adds a lot to the clarity of mp3, most of the times. At the very least, it does sound better. Coupled with a high quality speakers/Headphones, this quality increase is very apparent. One of my friends also say that it the CMSS-3D works like dream with his Sennheiser!

You want good audio for stereo output then better buy something that is audiophile worthy, like

Meier Audio

There are many such devices (not huge brands, but very capable and worthy) in the market. Go through head-fi.org if you feel the need (WARNING: You could end up spending a lot. like me )
