Apple recently held its 2023 WWDC (World Wide Developers' Conference) and announced some updates to its CarPlay feature.

As per reports, Apple will soon add SharePlay functionality to its CarPlay. This will allow iPhone users to create, join and add songs to a shared playlist on Apple Music and play them via the car's music system while running on CarPlay. SharePlay will automatically notify iPhone users of the option, meaning passengers will no longer have to pass on their phones to get everyone's selection. Rather, all passengers can just add music to the playlist via their own phones.



Reports suggest that the feature could also offer the functionality to play, pause, skip, rewind or re-order songs by anyone.

The tech company demonstrated the new feature via their Apple Music app, suspecting it could be the only music app the feature will be compatible with. However, Apple is yet to reveal any details. The company also hasn't revealed when the feature will be going live.

CarPlay is part of iOS. So SharePlay will be there as part of iOS 17.

I am excited for this as it has always been a bone of contention during family trips. Siri is bad at figuring out what we want to listen to and the kids are opinionated about most of the songs that the older generation plays.

A big problem with wired CarPlay is the annoyance of being restricted with cable length. History repeats itself, as this was the same issue with AUX cables
