I wish to install a couple of 6x9 coaxials on the rear parcel shelf of the Sx4. Has anybody done it before, and what is the advice on feasibility? One dealer told me that the sound will not be good due to the slope of the rear windshield. What is the level of cutting to be done?

This is my setup - All from JBL.

Front 2 components - JBL GTO608C
JBL 12" Sub woofer - JBL GT5-1204BR
4 ch amplifier - JBL GT5-S64
There is a connector involved.

I retained my stock HU and the rear speakers as stock. The rear speakers are directly connected to HU.

I've been thoroughly enjoying the music for the past three years.

3. Description of the problem: _______________

My amp has given up & doesn't work now. At times there would be sparks of sound heard in the woofer. Otherwise the front components and the sub-woofer are dead.
A neighbourhood accessory guy did a initial check and said it is a issue in the amplifier. But he was not skilled to do anything beyond this initial diagnosis.

Moreover, I have parcel tray with empty ovals for 6x9 speakers. I need a good pair of component speakers (6x9) for parcel tray and a pair (6 1/2") for front doors. I am inclined towards JBL but don't really know which product to go for. I am open for other good brands too. Just to mention speakers will be purchased from USA, so they don't have to be India specific.

Some suggestions regarding the same will be highly appreciated.

Additional Info: I like bass (but not artificially deep and bad bass like lots of speakers have). However, I also cannot do without clarity (decent mids and trebs).

Yes, but which model? SHould I go for damping or a sub?

model is upto you. but if you want a sub with GOOD bass, 15K for a good sub + amp might be a bit tight. I would leave a sub as a stage 2 mod, unless bass (and some bass is good enough for you) was more important than clarity

Its not always about good sub and amp. More importantly one can should look at installation. Damping and right enclosure will make the sub sound cleaner at the given price / budget.
For the music you listen to I suggest look for sub that will sound right in ported enclosure. Look at ported enclosure only if you are able build the ported enclosure as per the specs.

Would a budget amp/sub combo have enough output in a sealed box? And the average installer can't design an enclosure. Of course there is the possiblity of budget boxed subs, but then again their tuning would be more for output right ?

Depends on how loud do you want your bass. Most people don't want bass to be too loud, and there are a few who would like to play bass showing off.

For listening at normal volumes, the absence of bass should be felt more than the presence of it is noticed. For this, even the budget amp / sub combos work quite well.

Sealed boxes exert more control on the sub than the equivalent ported one, and hence an average sub sounds better (not louder; 'better' being a measure of accurate reproduction of bass notes) in even a non-ideal sealed enclosure. Comparatively, a non-ideal ported really spoils it for even the best of subs.

And the sealed box is more compact than a ported box

need some advice gurus!
searching for a decent 4 channel amp to power my Focal Polyglass 170v components and Focal Access co-axs for now and maybe use the rear channels for a sub later.
budget is within 10k with wiring.

My ICE was was modified to:

Original 2DIN HU
Front door: 260W 6-1/2"(165mm) 2-Way Component System
Rear Door: 220W 6-1/2"(100mm) 2-Way Coaxial Speaker
Subwoofer: JBL GT5-1204BP 1100W 12"(300mm) Band-Pass Subwoofer Box
Amp: JBL GT-X646 800W 4-Channel Power Amplifier
They had also put in a Hi/Lo converter.

My ICE had a new addition on Saturday,

Everything remains the same except the HU and the Hi/Lo converter is gone as well.

Now the question to the guru's

1) How does one turn this off completely? I did read the manual and it does say that I need to select "Source Off" option. I do not find this anywhere. The only options I have are Disc/iPod/Tuner/Aux on the SRC

2) There is a constant hissing noise (though very soft and subtle but I can sense it). Any remedy for this?

3) When I was playing around with the options, I used the fader to move the sound to the rear door speakers and woofer - The output was very feeble from the rear door Coaxials.

Am I missing anything here?

Figured out how to switch off the display - Just got to press and hold SRC till the display switches off.

For 15K ($300) you can get some nice 6x9s for the rear and a pair fo 6" components from the front. Since you listen to dance and bollywood I would look at Polk's db series or JL Audio Evolution series

Damping will typically cost you 6-8K if done well. A subwoofer with a box 6-7K and decent 4ch amp will cost 6-7K or monoblock will cost 12-15K.

To do all of the above you would need a budget of 40K with RCA wires and install labour.

If you want a subtle improvement get a good 4 ch. amp and do the damping. That should tighten the bass and improve dynamics. Cost about 16K

If you want big bass get the monoblock and subwoofer. That cold cost you about 24K.

Auditor makes some nice amps. I have heard one but do not know the model number.

The hissing migth be due to poor RCA cables. Try some better cables.

Check the gains on the amplifier. The rear channel gains may be set too low.
