Anyhow you are going to meet B&T, so the thing should be sorted.

Hi DerAlte,

Finally my system is sounding the way it should. I couldn't arrange to visit B&T as he was available on weekdays only and that means I have to take leave in order to visit him.
I took the plunge and did complete research on installation and followed the instructions given on amplifier's manual (JBL GTO 804 EZ)and told the shop owner to lend me his installer and tell him to re-install as per my instructions.
It did the trick and now the system is pumping out total studio kind of quality with awesome SQ.
I have some doubts however -

1. I have set the sub at a low gain level in order to have a nice blend of frequency transition and as suggested by you the absence of sub should be felt more than its presence. The amplifier shows the correct gain settings with 3 LEDs showing gain LOW/OK/HIGH. In order to have the OK light, I have to increase the gain but that makes the sub too bassy even after keeping the bass boost at its lowest position keeps the sub working hard. How to set the gain in this case?

2. I still find the JBL 1215B sub a bit of boomy, thinking of upgrading to Infinity 120.9. Will this give the tightness I am looking for?

You are not wrong in going by the ear.

Yes, if you use a sealed box of 0.7cft or slightly more. If you are unable to get it made, use a regular ready-made sealed box (they are roughly 1-1.2cft) and put 4-5 bricks and a small throw pillow/cushion inside - will do the trick.

Bricks? What kind of?

Would 120.9 go well with my existing amp GTO 804EZ? It pumps out 200 RMS in bridged mode.

:) The ordinary kind used to build walls. One can also used waste wood pieces at a pinch. The objective is to reduce the internal volume of the speaker box. The pillow / cushion is to damp the rear wave of the sub inside the box.

Of course it will. I am driving mine with an amp which can put out less than that.

Hello everyone,
I shifted my ICE setup from my Polo to my i20 yesterday,

The set up is minimal and consists of the following equipment

Front Components - Focal Polyglass 170V Kit.
Amplifier - Focal Solid 4
Subwoofer - Ground Zero Iridium GZIW 300X

While in the Polo the HU was a very basic Pioneer and I was using Focal RCA's, in the I20 I am using the OEM HU, I am not using RCAs, instead the amplifier is being fed the speaker level inputs.
While the same set-up sounded tight and punchy in the Polo, it is now sounding extremely loose and boomy in my I20. The mid bass has absolutely no impact/kick like it earlier had and the subwoofer sounds plain loose! The gain settings for the front channel have not been touched, they are set at minimum and HPF crossed at around 63 Hz. The gain settings at the rear channels(which are being used in bridged mode to power the subwoofer) is at around the 25-30% mark, LPF crossed at 63 Hz again!

I request the gurus to please enlighten me what could be the issue.
Also the Sub box is a new sealed box, and I have a feeling that the box might be slightly leaking!
Also, there is no damping used in both the set ups!
Guys please help!

'Leaky sub box' will not be the cause of this. Do you realize you need to retune the system, and reposition the sub in the i20? Different dimensions and interior volume has major effect. Gain is not the only parameter that affects the system response.

1. Retune your system from scratch

2. Check if either of the mid-bass is connected out of phase

3. Change the direction the sub is facing, and / or reverse the sub polarity (swap + and - wires). This will change the sub character

Hi everyone,

I am booking a swift this week, I am planning to upgrade the stock ICE setup and my budget is around 12-15K.I have few silly questions regarding the same!
I am planning to get component speakershttp://www.snapdeal.com/product/jbl-...65-inch/667217 to replace the rear speakers
and 4 channel amp http://www.snapdeal.com/product/jbl-...channel/257866 to connect both front and rear component speakers.

Please listen to the speakers first before buying them, lest you get "buyer's remorse". The text description of the item as well as reviews are nowhere near what your ears hear in an audition.

The components should replace the *front* speakers, not the rear ones. For rear, buy 6x9 oval coaxials (should cost you <4K) and put them on an MDF parcel shelf. Do try some other brands and models of speakers too. Street prices are <= Snapdeal prices.

The prices quoted on Snapdeal are a bit too high. The steet price of the amp is usually 5K+. Another amp I would recommend is the Kenwood M846 - roughly the same.

Yes - power wires to power the amp (household wiring wires will do), speaker wires and RCA cables (from HU to amp). You will also need to buy a Line Output Converter or Hi-Lo converter.

Sure. Do check the other Swift related threads in the Ask the Gurus as well as Sound Off & Show Off sections.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I guess its time for me to go shopping :D will post the details once I complete the installation.

Okay need help again. I drive a Chevrolet Beat and just fitted a new CNG tank. Had to say goodbye to the rear parcel shelf along with the pair of Pioneer 6x9s that I had.

So now I am left with a Pioneer HU and a pair of 4 inch speakers mounted at the front.

Chevrolet has provided slots for rear speakers and these can accommodate 4x6 size. What options do I have in this size? I have only heard of Polk Audio db461.

Would it be possible to fit 4 inch speakers at the back? Need suggestions for good quality speakers that wouldn't be too expensive. I don't mind if I don't get a loud thump or anything, but need good SQ at medium to fairly high volumes.

Hi Guys, wanted an advice on a ICE upgrade on my MS RItz ZDi. It has the OEM Nippon car stereo and was planning to upgrade it to a Sony XAV-65 double DIN touch screen display and get the reverse parking camera configured to it. I had checked with the service center if this is possible however they mentioned that if this is done, the steering controls for audio cannot be used. Any ideas if this could be done and if yes, any recommended places in Bangalore where this could be done and installed ?

Look for a steering control adapter for this HU, which connects between the wires coming from the steering controls, and the HU. Look at the Bangalore installers thread for installers.

I have a 6 year old Sony CDX-GT460US HU in my Swift.

From last month, I've noticed that it shuts down all of a sudden while playing songs from the USB. I can switch it on and it would start playing again. Even if I seek to the song where it crashed the first time, usually it plays that song without issues next time but would crash at some other song next time around.

I tried formatting the USB and re-loading the songs. It worked fine without any issues for some time but after that, it started showing the same issues again since yesterday.

Any idea what could be the issue?

Hi gurus,
I'm running hertz dsk165.3 components in my front doors powered by the front channels of my JBL GT-X646 amp and a rockford fosgate punch p2 subwoofer which is powered by the rear channels of the same amp. I had been using this setup niggle free for close to 8 months but last night while driving home the amp suddenly went off. So now my front speakers and sub don't work. Sometimes when the car is switched on the speakers and sub play for a moment but then go off again! Please help me!

Does the Overload lamp go on? Could be a power supply problem in the amp. You can take the amp to the JBL service center and get it rectified.
