At a 15k budget if you need a really good player then you can also opt for the pioneer 7950, it is pretty rich on features and sounds good too. Very good VFM. Alpine players though are definitely better but running a set of speakers along with the head a good Alpine and a Pio 7950 wont have heaven and hell difference in SQ.

15K for a system? incl 4 speakers?

I wuld get the Pio 5950 for about 7-8K and then spend 7-8K for 4 speakers.

The Alpine HU alone would set you back by a good 15k.

The Pio 7950 is a decent bet. Alpine HUs though good are not cheap. Also, you might want some decent speakers, A pio 7950 with JBL 6x9s and a pair of compos up front will take you budget to 20 approx, but you will have decent SQ

you can comfortably manage front comps+ alpine HU(9870) within 15k, and rears for another 4k

Only one preamp out :(

Alpine HU work fine in India; I meant about the Fm part. Not sure about Clarion radio scan frequency.

Nowadays, Alpine is going thru some good price revisions here.
9880 HU with entry level components will come close to 16k or so. 2 (or 3?) preouts for further upgrades is provided in this HU. Add another 3k for the same series of coax and you've got a good setup.

Unless you are buying from a distress sale, it is cheaper to buy it in India. UK is one of the costliest locations for Electronics. Save the GBP and buy in India.

zak, do you have details on the pricing for the cheaper stuff? If the 9870 falls to the 6k price point, i think It has a lot of potential

Going with Pioneer+JBL combo?

Thanks for all your suggestions about clariona and alpine,

Planning to go with the following combo for my Palio MJD:

HU Pioneer 5050USB Rs 7.2K (W/O B&W)
Front JBL GTO607C Components Rs 4.5K (W B&W)
Rear JBL GTO937 Ovals Rs 3.8K (W B&W)

Works out to be around 16K including cabling and fitting charges.

Does that sound fine?
