Hi,

I am planning on performing a minor upgrade to my existing ICE setup in my Swift. The current configuration is as follows,
Pioneer DEH 6750MP Head unit
Alpine MRP-F240 4 channel amp
Pioneer TS-E1695 6 1/2" 3 way (not sure if the model number is correct)
Alpine SWE 1242 12" subwoofer
Alpine SPS 170a 6 1/2" 2 way

Would appreciate your suggestions on what to add next. Budget as of now is around 7-8k.

Thanks.

I assume the 170a are in the front and the Pio are in the rear. I would try and get a JBL 300.1 or Pio D510 for 9-10K to drive the sub. the Alpine 240 is really not capable of driving the sub well.

next upgrade would be using the 170 in the rear and adding a pair of SPR 17 to the front using teh front A pillar for the tweeter.

agree:

I tend to agree with Navin Ji ...get a better amp for the sub and use the other amp to drive the speakers.

You can actually get a decent 2 channel amp or a monoblock for that amount. Go for it.

This is a first. Everyone agrees.

Thanks guys... I'll be going for a monoblock.

btw, is it better to stick with products of the same manufacturer or can I mix it up? I would prefer to stay with Alpine products.
Does Alpine have any good monoblocks?

alpine does have some monoblocs; but sadly not in your range dear!..... be sure of not using fakes that are all around in the market.

Alpine's 605 runs about 20K. the 1005 is even more. BTW be careful there are a lot of fake Alpines out there.

If u can get these stuffs from US, u can get a Alpine MRP-M450 250W Mono Subwoofer Amplifier, Class D for 140$ a Soundstream Power Amp Install Kit for around 40$ and 1.2 Farad Capacitor if you can extend your budget by max 1K 1.2 Farad Capacitor.

Sorry that was a typo, it should be, if you can extend your budget by max 1K you might even get a 2 Farad Capacitor

From US? JJ i think your posting in the wrong thread. Psynaps is from Kerala and wants to upgrade his ICE.

I think i'll settle for a JBL :) Mucho thanks guys...

Hi,

Sorry to bring up this old thread but just wanted to know if there is anything to be kept in mind while connecting the JBL 300.1 to the sub. What's the difference between setting it up at 2/4 ohms? From the spec of the sub, i see its 4 ohm, so does the 300.1 also have to be operating at the same ohm?

Thanks.

Its kind of plug and play. 300.1 supports 4ohm (200W @ 4ohm)
See that you use a good wiring kit.

Hi psy (hey that rhymes!!!) Hi psy!

You do not set an amplifier to a particular ohms. You connect a speaker of X ohms to it and that's that. Then you pomp up thee jam.

Okay, so here's the update... I went to A.M. Car Decor, Automate and Emperor and none of them had the JBL 300.1 with them. Emperor said they could get it, but it would cost somewhere around 12k. Plus, they even suggested to go for some other amp as the JBL was not capable of delivering all those 300W. :)
Any idea where I can get hold of this amp in cochin?

Thanks.
