After getting my car ICEd from Driven in east of kailash,I am somehow not satisfied with the sound coming out of my setup. My Setup Consists of

HU Pioneer P5000
Hertz Front components ESK 165
Hertz Rear Co-Axials ECK 165
Hertz SubWoofer ES 380(15")
Kenwood 4 Channel Amp KAC 8401

The Problem

Somehow the bass from the Sub woofer is very very loud,it makes me difficult to sit in my car at very high volumes. After again going to driven for some tunning he advised me to damp the doors, boot etc.....I got the front doors,Boot lid and rear doors damped. The rattling did go and the bass was good but still i think something is wrong.I think some settings in My hu need some changing or the amp needs some tunning.Audio gurus please help me to tune the HU.When i switch to Natural or Powerful mode then the bass goes and at S Bass mode the bass is very loud,i want something in between.I heard ankur's setup he also has the same setup but his bass is smooth and not irritating.Due you thing i need a better HU or a better AMP.

It seems you need a tune up... ask the Manager to call me next time you at Driven... in the meantime, please switch off all Bass and Loudness EQ, try decreasing sub level to where it sounds best.

Mu4gr8 stupid:

Will damping effect the sound of the sub ??

Doctor sahab (LBM), it might be the rattling that was percieved to be bass. since, he has already damped that irritating effect was gone.

Moreover, I think he needs tune his system (HU) for various kind of music that he plays and then switch over from 1 setting to another depending upon the music played. His amp definitely needs a tuning, BUT then 12" would've sufficed at the first place. Dont expect Hertz 15" not to have a good amount of bass.

Nice equipment you've got there! Congratulations.

What car do you have?

HU?? Which is this? Is it the CD changer CDX P5000 or the mini disc player?? I couldn't find more details on this HU. (I am bad on google too). Please give some more details on this.

You have a 15" ES380 sub which can do quiet a bit of loud bass. It goes very low too.
And I am seeing that you're turning on S-Bass settings on your HU. That is a crazy thing to do. Never ever go that way. Pioneer has some inbuilt EQ presets which include S-Bass, Flat and natural. It is better to keep the EQ at flat and do the tuning @ amp level. If you feel anything missing still, then you can play around with the HU eq settings but never ever turn on hi loud nor S-bass. I am speaking from my sour experience. :)
I would recommend to turn on the EQ-EX (if available) on your HU. It will give you some additional bass and treble controls and you can increase /decrease a certain bass frequenzy without bothering the whole setup.

Better still, call up Gunbir from Driven's place and he will help you out more better.
Before that, don't go the S-bass way!

@LBM. Day by day, I am forced to think so! LOL.

OT: Its only better. Nothings "more better" Dont mind zak. :-)

Try putting an EQ (Pioneer-12 band). The problem of high bass may reduce. I had done the same thing. Now the ICE sounds better.

hi,

snaronikar, what eq are you talking about? a separate equalizer? no he does not need it.

i agree with zak. dont use the eq. keep it on flat and loud off. you wont like the sound first if you are used to too much treble and bass but after a while im sure you wont touch the eq. :-)

and yes, please call up gunbir when you are at driven.

btw in what car is the ice installed?

cheers
clip

p.s.

Gunman, didnt driven closed shop? i thought he did.

He just moved.

LBM please disregard my earlier post, I just realised that the member has a SMS like handle. MU 4 GR 8. THe MU part I can understand (I am a Tull-head) the rest I cant.

MU,

The Kenwood is really 2 2ch. amp in one chassis (Crutchfield calls them AMp A and Amp B.

I assume the 15" is connected to Amp B in bridged mode (the front speakers are connected to Amp A and the HU to the rear. Now this part (AMP B) of the Kenwood has a fixed bass boost of 6dB at 90Hz. If that is engaged please switch it off.

You can try increasing the sub level and try changing the Phase of the sub which might yield better result.
