VW Virtus: Issues with the Infotainment system

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum and while I've been a passive consumer of content here, the singular issue I'm facing with our 1.75 year-old Virtus warrants my active participation!

Background of the car: My dad bought the Virtus (1.0 Comfortline) in Sep-2022 in Chennai when I was working in Mumbai (I transported our Ameo and used it there once the Virtus was bought). A few months ago I moved back home to Chennai and have since sold off the Ameo since our combined usage of both cars was not more than 200 kms in a month so it didn't make sense having the Ameo sitting in the Sun.

The first issue: Anyway, so since I started using the Virtus post the Ameo's sale, I've first noticed that the speaker system is faulty since none of the four speakers in the rear doors work and don't show up in the balancer/fader settings window as well. I've been meaning to get it checked with the ASS hoping that there would some solution under warranty if the issue is more than improperly connected wires.

On top of it, the Bluetooth connectivity is a pain since the visibility toggle sometimes just gets stuck in "Off" mode if say I stop at a shop and resume the journey. When this happens, it doesn't connect to any phone including the one which was connected mere minutes ago. The issue doesn't go away until I start the car the next day or so.

The second (more serious) issue: On top of the two aforementioned issues, I've faced this more serious issue twice so far. The head unit becomes unresponsive to volume controls and power off, and the radio just keeps playing even when I turn off the ignition, remove the key, walk out and lock the car! Have appended a video to understand the issue better. (Note: I was stuck in horrible traffic and was at a red signal so it was safe to take the video since I didn't know if I can replicate the issue again). Whenever I try to mute or adjust volume, an error pops up that reads "Please select valid source". I'm thinking it's a serious issue since it has the propensity to drain battery as it keeps playing music even after exiting the car and locking it!

Video:

Will pay the ASS a visit soon but in case any one has faced this or has a solution, please do let me know.

Regards

Re: VW Virtus: Issues with the Infotainment system

Hi,

I haven't encountered any issues that you mentioned in our Virtus GT, except for the phone getting disconnected twice from the Bluetooth connection in the past 6 months of owning the car.

I suggest you try connecting to WiFi to check if there are any software updates available. I received a software update after the 1-month checkup, so it might help resolve any issues you might be experiencing.

Hi! Yes, had checked for software updates the last two times we had serviced it and they had updated it. We didn't identify the infotainment issue as I was working elsewhere at that time and folks at home use the system merely as a clock

I'm yet to pay VW a visit as I've been swamped with work; shall update the thread when I do.

In my 1.0 Topline AT, the music keeps playing even after the engine is turned OFF and stops the moment I ajar the door. This also activates the follow me of the headlights and displays the trip summary. A point though, Topline has Start/Stop button instead of key, so, it probably goes into the accessory mode.

Re: VW Virtus: Issues with the Infotainment system

Hello,

By the time you plan to visit to the ASS, pl try the below:

1. Start the car and keep it Idle for 5 mins.
2. Stop the car and remove the negative terminal of the battery for as long as you can. (max. 30 mins)
3. Reconnect the negative terminal and check if the concern is resolved.

Additionally, please let me know about any water entry that you suspect could have happened through the doors or near the tail gate.

Please let me know.

Thanks

Re: VW Virtus: Issues with the Infotainment system

Thank you for the responses, everyone! I must apologise for my tardiness but I got caught up with work and didn't have the time to respond or get the car checked.

The annual maintenance due date was also close so thought of getting done with both and gave the car for a check-up. They re-flashed the firmware on the HU and now all 8 speakers work and I haven't faced the freezing issue thus far (fingers crossed). I shall keep this thread apprised of developments, if any.

Ours is the base Comfortline variant, so there is no Start/Stop button. Think yours is going into the accessory mode as you have pointed out. Just to add, I faced that freezing issue even after locking the car with the remote

Hi, thanks for the tips, but the battery part didn't work and it turned out to be (hopefully) a firmware issue, and there was no water entry issue as well. Seems like it was a glitchy set-up.
