Need help ICE GURUs :- HU forgets the settings with every restart

hi all

i am facing a strange problem with my HU KDC-mp4028,everytime i start the car its on "Standby" mode and it forgets on what settings it was using before.

i expect it to start from the same point of a song where i left and this is what used to happen earlier.

though i have this habbit of shutting down the HU before shutting down my car.

i tried going thru all the settings but no help.

is it something related the power wiring of the HU?

please help as its so irritating to change the settings everytime before you start driving.

Hello sunny,

Every head unit has 2 power wires. One Yellow (dirty fellow) and one Red (you crapped in your bed).
The Yellow needs to be connected to a supply that is ALWAYS on.
The red is the one that should go on or off, depending on your key setting.

My guess is that both the Yellow (dirty fellow) and Red (you crapped in your bed) are connected to the supply that goes off when you switch the car off.
If your HU was working properly earlier and you have not done any wiring changes then we go to option 2. Naughty boy.

Option2:
Your car is either not charging your battery properly, or your battery is dying.
So when you start your car, the yellow (dirty fellow) supply is dropping down to 0V and the HU loses its memory.

Then your HU gets up and says " Main kaun hoon? main kahan hoon? Mera naam kya hai?? Aap log mujhe iss tarah kyun ghoor rahe hain?" Then it puts both hands on it's ears and screams NAHEEEE and it's eyes go round and round and then it faints.

Your HU is getting completely disconnected from the battery when you turn your keys to off.

Your electrician should be able to rewire it properly.

ICE gurus are famous for this too. But the other thing they do better is at making all the family needs such as wifey's jewelry/shopping/anniversary gifts, boot space in the car go for a toss.

By the way, you're welcome

Was the problem resolved ?

I am glad if it did.

There is one other thing related to this that i want to ask the gurus. Isn't there a battery inside the HU that controls the memory of the HU or is it only related to the battery of the car ? A long long time ago , i had a cassette deck which had batteries to memorize the audio, radio settings etc.

No E_L - the yellow wire maintains and preserves the memory. Disconnect it and you lose all settings, radio stations etc.

Thank you sam. The reason I had that doubt was because my old cassette deck did have batteries in it since it was a removable set meaning you could pull out the whole set from the dash & take it with you. 100% theft proof.

You've answered your own question John. I know what you're talking about, old tape HUs like supra had a connector at the back and a handle in the front.
You could yank out the HU and carry it with you. (Ugh, if I may add)

These HUs were designed to be taken off the car battery for a long time. It would be an annoying thing if you took the HU home, brought it back the next morning and lost all your settings.
SO they had a small battery inside to preserve the memory.

Modern HUs are not designed to be disconnected, only the front fascia is removed. So there is no need for a memory battery inside.
Downside is that when you service the car and disconnect the battery, it's time to set everything again. And it's the time to disco (lalalalala) it's the time to disco (lalalalala) chalo baba I'll khisko........ it's the time to disco.
