Need help between JL Audio and Kicker

Hi all,

A cousine of mine in US wants to get a new bass system for his car. He already has a decent basic system (front, rear speaker) a 4 ch amp already installed.

Now he has zeroed down on two systems...

Kicker

Amp: ZX2500.1 Monoblock amplifier

2ohms : 2500 x 1 ch watt RMS
4ohms : 1250 x 1 ch watt RMS

(Two )Sub: S15L7 Solobaric 15" L7 series woofers

Kicker Solo-Baric L7 Series
15" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils
Power range: 50-1000 RMS watts
Peak power: 2000 watts
Frequency range: 18-100 Hz
Sensitivity: 88.5 dB

OR

JL Audio

Amp: JL 1000/1v2
Rated Power : 1000W RMS @ 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm
THD at Rated Power : <.05% @ 4 ohm
S/N Ratio : > 95dB Below rated Power
Frequency Response : 5 Hz - 200Hz
Damping Factor : >500 @ 4 Ohm / 50 Hz
Input Range : Switchable from 200mV-2V RMS - 800mV-8V RMS
Class D Monoblock Subwoofer amplifier

Two 10" JL Audio subs:

Diameter: 10"
Power Handling: 500W/1000W (RMS/Peak)
Impedance: 3 Ohms (SVC)
Mounting Depth: 8"

Note: Kicker system is working at 2ohms and JL is at 4ohms.
Kindly post your suggestions

to me, JL audio seems better. I've heard their sub + amp combo once (in a blacks' car) playing RAP. kicker, though a good brand, doesnt appeal to me much.

Which Car is This for ?
The two systems are miles apart, Kicker is a pure SPL belter and a pair of L715s will will yank the wax out of his ears (if that is what he wants, then yes its fine) However, that amp will overpower the subs running 2500 RMS @ 2Ohms.
If he is looking at decent SQ with a good amount of bass too, then JL is the choice. However a pair of 13" W6 subs will be good match with that amp, not the 10" subs.

Some other options:

If he is looking for SQ, then he can also consider Image Dynamics subs. Though not as widely available as JL out there, they too are great subs.

The 1000/1 amp chruns out some serious power and is capable of decent SPL. If SPL is all he is looking for then he can also try the W12GTi sub by JBL, it does cost a bit, but slams as hard too.
Even the RE Audio MX series subs are some killer SPL subs. Mind Melting sonic boom.

He has both SPL and SQL on mind.....SPL is little more i guess. Ya blueraven, i know the zx2500.1 is a bit overpowered for the L7 15" at 2 ohms.

He plans to install the system in a Accord

The defination of SPL is very subjective from person to person. Some people feel the bass out of my car is too heavy (that is because they have not heard too many powerful 2 sub setups) whereas my car is a SQL setup.
Now the choice of equipment will have a lot to do with his music taste and also what equipment he has already used or heard in someone's car till date. That's very important.
In a nutshell if he wants to enjoy the vocals and mids out of the speakers then SPL is a strict NO NO. And by SPL I mean some serious bass, something like a Proper Kicker setup. I have heard a 18" SOLOX playing in a M800 with 2 KX2500.1s and that is literally killer bass.
However, even with a pair of JL W6 subs he can get some serious bass along with a JL 1000/1 amp. Now, it sounds like serious bass to me, might not to some.
If he does not care much about the mids and voice, then SPL sounds more like it. If he wants a lot of strength in the bass, then he will have to sacrifice more boot space.

good LBM your mentioned the electrical point....i forgot to mention in the earlier post

So wat kind of electrical changes will have to be made?

He plans to put a spearate battery for the audio....will that be enough, or can he simply get away by installing a good cap.

Wiring i suggested a min of 8 guage from my side

Yeap! he has to switch to 0Ga wiring whatever he chooses JL or Kicker, He will need some killer performance battery and a Heavy Duty capacitor with the Kicker setup.
For a compettion setup he would need changes on the alternator etc, but considering how painful the ZX2500.1 can already sound, don't think he will be using the full potential anyways.

The electrical upgrade will be consider keeping in view how much time he has to play his setup at its max potential.

Thanks Blue....I was thinking the right way! Removing the back seat, yaar this is one of the craziest install I've seen (I mean in a non-demo car).

Was battery changed? Any other relevant details sir?

Holy Crap! Did the car do a hydraulic suspension impression by jumping the rear-end itself when music was played loudly?

The entire list of equipment :

1 of KX700.5 5 Channel amp
2 of KX2500.1 Monoblock amps
1 of 18" SoloX Subwoofer
1 of Rockford Fosgate P1692S 6x9" Component Speakers
1 of Rockford Fosgate P162S 6.5" Component Speakers
some 12 Farad Capacitor
Additional 800 Amps Lightning Audio Deep cycle non spillable Battery.
Full 0Ga wiring for Mono amps and 4 Ga for 5 Channel amp.
Don't remember the head unit.

The only relevant detail I remember is " Don't yank the volume up in this car, especially if you are sitting inside ".
The bass is nothing like music, it's mind melting power, you mandatorily need ear plugs to sit inside, even though the gains were set really low.
