Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

It looks like I inserted the igo card with maps in my Honda City in the wrong side and it is now stuck and I just cant get it out.
Tweezers don't help but I have not tried yet with fine tweezers or maybe a divider from a compass box.
There are some YouTube videos about using 2 side tape and pulling it out but I am a bit skeptical.
Has anyone faced the same problem as solved it ??

re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

Usually an Micro SD-Card cannot be fully inserted in reverse as there will be an obstruction in the connector.

Can you share the photo so that it would be helpful.

I dont think I inserted it wrongly, but the Honda guy says it is so.

Re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

I was of the opinion that they can be inserted only in one direction and if you try to insert in any different orientation, it won't be accepted in the slot. Something is looking wrong to my naked eye from the picture you have shared, the edges (top & bottom) should look similar, right ?

They have a tiny longitudinal slot at the top for pulling it out with fingers. I guess in this case, the only option left is to use fine needle nose pliers. But just be too careful, fingers crossed.

Please see the below video from 13:00 onwards on how he insert the Micro SD-Card to the MAP slot.

I hope you have inserted the card in same direction.

Take a pencil/pen apply feviquick slightly, place it to the SD Card and pull it out. this should work and I tried this long back to remove something which was stuck in similar fashion.

Re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

Few options that I can think of...
  1. use flat head tweezers
  2. From the pic, it appears that there is a small gap on this sides. Inset some strong pin/needle and try to pull it to one side. This will expose a small part of the card outside and can then be pulled out with tweezers. nose pliers
  3. the glue gun stick technique which you might have seen on shorts/reels where they melt a glue gun stick and keep it on top of the part to be pulled out and then pulling it out once the glue is solid. I have tried this method to pull out broken key from a door lock and it actually worked.

Re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

I got motivated after so many responses and went to car and try again.
Unfortunately could not pull it out since my thumbs are a bit big.
I had tried earlier with tweezers and not succeeded but I think i need very thin ones.
Will try again all suggestions and report.
The funny thing is that igo is not very useful since Google maps does a better job, but it is nice to have all the same.

Re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

If nothing of the above mentioned methods work, you better ask a person from the local mobile repair shop. They will get it done in an iffy. A same thing had happened with me,when I was younger. In my infinite wisdom, I decided to put a sim card in the SD card slot of my tab. Result? It got stuck in the same way. It's better you leave it to the professional to handle this. Or you may take it to the SVC, don't know if they'll pull it out, or ask you to change the head unit 😄
Best of luck

Micro SD cards getting stuck is more common than you might think.

Based on the images, I think you have inserted it correctly.

Question: Are you able to read from the card?

To remove the card, you should ideally use a non conductive material to push or pull it out to avoid a short circuit.

Using a toothpick or a credit card usually does it for me (yes, I have had a couple of situations where the micro SD card got stuck).

Here's a video that should also help -

It suggests using ceramic tweezers, which you can get on Amazon.

Re: Micro SD card stuck in audio head-unit

I think you inserted the card properly. To remove sd card we need to push in for some devices. There might be corrosion in that slot. It is better to get help of a mobile repair technician to avoid damaging the port.
