Hello all,
After a lot of reading on this forum I am thinking to go for a monoblock amp the can power my 12" Sony sub (300W RMS / 1000W Max) in my Alto.
Currently I am using a Sony XM-552ZR 2 channel amp that produces (only) 130W RMS @ 4 ohm in bridged mode. It is okay at low volume but the amp clips at higher volume.

My rear speakers are Sony 6X9 Coaxials and two way co-axs at fromt. HU is sony CDX-GT460US.

My questions are -
1) Will a 300W RMS amp provide substantial increase in the max volume and SQ of my sub.

2) If yes then please suggest a good 300W amp under 10K (B & W preferred).

3)What is the difference in power rating of amp at 2 ohm and 4 ohm and which one should I consider relevant ??

1 ) YES. 130W is nothing when you are powering a sub. Ideally you should look at atleast 250+ for some serious bass. It will increase the loudness, but as for SQ I can't say. If the sony sub is missing beats then it still will.
2 ) You can find MANY amplifiers under 10k for this. Even jbl has the cs300.1 which I think is under 10k. Sony, pio, blaupunkt, etc are also viable alternatives. Look for one with b/w only for peace of mind. You can even post in the market section to see if someone is upgrading his amp so that you can get a good deal on the old one.
3 ) Ideally if you are buying a mono buy one which is 2 ohm stable. Also, the power at 2 ohms should be double the power at 4 ohms. Also, take a look at the THD ratings. These are also very important. Pls stay away from the desi amps. IMHO the 2ohm rating is more important as it shows how much current the amp can handle. Some amps don't deliver double the power at 2 ohms, which clearly shows the internal limit of the amp

AKG, would plz clarify this a bit more....Why 2 OHms rating is the benchmark for a monoamp..then some 1ohms stable mono amp are also available.......Why 2 ohms?

I did not mean it is the benchmark. I meant it is more important than the 4 ohm rating ( note I said more, not most in my earlier post ). I will give you an example. I have a blau tha1400. It is rated 400@4. I may assume that the power will double at 2 ohm if I don't look at the rating and just see that the amp is 2 ohm stable. However, this amp pushes 650@2 and not 800@2. This clearly shows the limit of the amp. Also note, he is looking for amps<10K so I don't think he can get 1 ohm stable amps from any reputed brand. Maybe I am mistaken.
I think you know exactly what I mean Gill sahab. I cannot clarify it more. It is very much obvious that an amp stable at 1 ohm from a reputed brand is obviously better. Maybe I should have worded it like check the rating at the lowest ohm the amp is stable at.

Your setup, IMO requires more than a monoblock. You'll have to upgrade the front stage and the sub as well. Just an opinion.

Check out some of the old school Orion HCCA series. 225/250 etc. They could be driven to insanely low ohm's while churning out serious power.

edit : LBM beat me to it with the masterstroke! Anyhow the orions are still worth checking out :-p

2 x 100W @ 2 ohms
2 x 400 @ ½ ohm
