City ICE Upgrade – from Xplodyfied to JBLyfied

I “was” from what you call the xplod Camp. Since the time I’ve got my driver’s license (long long time ago), a car audio for me had to be a Sony.

But over the last few months, I was getting disappointed with my sound output. It sounded flat.I listen to mostly Rock (Gnr, Metallica, Iron Maiden)

I knew I had to do upgrade my ICE.Since i was from the xplod camp, for me upgrade was xplod amp and get new xplod rears.

Then I came across Team BHP. After doing a roadrunner on my ICE knowledge reading other people experiences and posting my query in ask the gurus section, I was able to get an idea what my holy grail will sound like and hence decided to give JBL a shot.

My Old Rig:

HU:Sony - CDX-GT450
Fronts: JBL CS2105
Rear: Sony Xplod 6"x9" ovals 3 way (forgot the model no.)

Upgraded Rig:

HU:Sony: CDX-GT450
Fronts: JBL 607c
Rears: JBL GTO 937
Amp: JBL 75.4
Woofer: CS1204B
Dynamat Extreme for the front doors and rear parcel tray
Wiring Kit : EFX

I got the Amp to drive the fronts and woofer.

The Sound:

I knew that JBL was good, but after getting it installed in my car, now I know that it’s really good. The sound comes alive with the amp and components and the bass output from CS1204B is exactly what I was looking for.

I would like to thank hydrashok & rocksterraghu for their reply to my query.

My 2 cents:

What I’ve realized is, each person will have his/her own unique requirement from an ICE. There is nothing wrong with Xplods. I’m sure there are others which are better than JBL. It all comes down to how much one wants to invest in the ICE to get the sound they are looking for.I found exactly was i was looking for with the upgraded rig.

Now I'm really enjoying my time spent in the traffic jams

Nice config there pal !

I am also thinking of upgrading my current setup to the exact config that you have done on your car , could you let me know , how much the install cost you both with respect to time and money?

So very true. I see so many people just satisfied with low grade speakers of the cheapest quality - and I also see people not being satisfied with even the most expensive equipment! its more of a psychological effect!
