My RF mention was just that, a mention. Using a 4 channel to drive a pair of components and the rest bridged to the sub is the most popular and default 4.1 recommendation on this forum. Though it is better to save up and invest in better components, a CS60.4 (or whatever it is called now) will do the job for you. How well is the question. If it is a free air sub, ie., in infinite baffle design it should do pretty decent given your no-where-near-loud listening modes.

For your requirement, the GT5 should do the job. My friend is running a GT4-12 off a 60.2 (It is a to-be-upgraded setup) and I can tell you that it is not all that bad. I just didn't want you to expect too much from it. :)

1. A New Zen Estilo
2. Hunting for a decent ICE
3. Tight Budget
4. I don't need the boom-boom of a sub, but I do want to feel the dhug-dhug of the bass drum (I hope that makes sense ). I don't care about volume as much as I care for my rapidly deteriorating hearing, so I want clear bass, but it doesn't need to be loud.

5. I don't want to get 6x9s primarily because I value the boot space of my car, and don't want to fit a MDF board there

Thanks for the thread, I'm following every inch of it, I'm almost convinced with what I need to buy, and what I will leave for upgrade!

Well, rocksterraghu said that the GT5 "should do the job" and that I shouldn't expect too much from it. So my question was whether (given my requirements of not being very loud) I would get a better and wholesome sound using a 10" sub with the GT5 (or similar amp) instead of a 12" one.

a free air sub is one that does not have a box.

a boxed sub will take up more room that a pair of 6x9s on a MDF board. however you can make a boxed sub that is removable. does that option agree with you?

^ yes, exactly! Most of the time I don't need to carry luggage (atleast nothing that wouldn't fit in the rear seat anyway), but I do want to have the option to remove it if and when required.

How much can I get a removable box made for? I am thinking of getting a 12" sub (Alpine or Rockford Fosgate) from abroad.

same as a regualr box you only have to add a Speakon connector.

Speak On is a type of connector which is registered to its original manufacturer Neutrik. It is generally used in proaudio in connection amplifiers and speakers.

Here's the deal: after some introspection, and a wake up call to the reality that Team-BHP true to it's promise was putting my budget towards 2.5 times it was supposed to be, I have to resign myself to ICE that stays within budget or no ICE at all :eek:

So can I get the following in 15K? (b&w preferable to the extent that it fits the budget, otherwise grey):

4 channel amp
Front components
Sub (or would getting a tray and a pair of 6x9s be cheaper?)
All wiring required (decent brand - something that's not trash)
