2008 Alpine KTP-455 HU Power Pack

As another member has posted, the new 2008 Alpine HUs (are they available in India yet?) have an interesting new 'accessory' - the KTP-455 HU Power Pack.. which in a nutshell seems to be a mini-amplifier installable at the rear of 2008 HUs to give it a boost to 45W x 4channels RMS.

Here's the press release for the power pack.

Sounds great for someone like me who doesn't need to have a party in his car, but appreciates music. But would it add to SQ?

Anyway, anyone know more about this product? There doesn't seem to be a product page for it.

Puting amplifier in a car does not mean that one is doing to do party. Nothing in the world till now can replace a car amp. If one want good SQ a amp is the only way. Nothing compares to it.

For a normal listener who do no consider SQ as priority can go for a HU + Speaker combo.

sorry sorry LBM bhaiyya...

But what I mean is that there are people like me who don't need their ICE to be loud at all, but do want good SQ. And the purpose of this thread is to ask whether this new device would be a nice intermediary step between a HU + speakers ICE and one with amps.

cooldude, don't forget wiring - considering that good wiring would be Rs. 2500 atleast, that's $60 more. So the final cost of amps like the 60.4 would be more around $180. AFAIK you won't get any decent amp and wiring in Rs. 5000 (~ $120).

Anyway, really, the point here is does anyone know more about this product? e.g. is there anyone here who represents Alpine?

Not having heard the Alpine 445 I cant add much. Obviously this unit has class D amplification. class D amplification might not still be as good in sound as Class AB but without a listen I dont think anyone can pass judgement.

I dont think you will find this product in India and if you do it would be for many times the price quoted ($120).

Please ensure that the product will fit behind your HU (many cars dont have enough room there) before you invest in it.

if one is on a budget, there is no need to buy a 2500 rs power cable. one can get a finolex or l&t multistrand cable. they are quite cheap. i got a 25mm2 cable for around 1000 bucks.
then you get nice and cheap interconnects from MX.

so one can get an amp plus cables in around 6k. a jbl 60.4 can deliver 60w rms x 4. i think an amplifier will be a better buy.

cheers

Sorry to bring this old thread live!
I am thinking to get this one from USA for my NHC (alpine head unit one).
Has anyone tried it.

The selling point is no extra wiring, no removal of carpets/pads and esp. my kid may want to play with all the wires in Car..
Since I am not a audiophile , I am thinking this would be enough..

Any thoughts.

Thanks.

Is it still available? before you import it make sure there is enough room in the dash to accomodate this amplifier.

I think it is easier to teach your child not to play with wiring of any kind.
