The coax sounds really good, much more laidback than the GZ 6x9 in the rear, but powering them off the Hu doesnt do them justice. Im sure they'll be much better once i get an amp.

I finally went with 1.5mm nitrile rubber sheets : Price is 140/- per kg. I got 5 sq ft per kg, so thats Rs. 28 per sq. ft. Not Bad!! Plus, hey're about 0.20 kg per sq. ft. which is very close to the density of commercial materials

okay, now tell us where you got these? what kind of stores? - 1.5mm nitrile rubber sheets

There are a few shops selling rubber sheets in the part of town selling industrial stuff (pipes, machines, tools etc.) Look in the yellow pages.

EDIT : in a bigger city than mine, it might be possible to get self-sdhesive sheets like shrivz did, so search for those first. Your job'll be a lot easier.

Hey Addy,

Thanks for the info.
I already did a search, and nailed some places to go.
Will check out the material in person, and then come back to let other fellas know. I found some self-adhesive stuff too, need to check in what size they are available.

Update : Front Doors and Floor Damped

I've completed damping the front doors and the system sounds unbelievable!! No pics sorry.

Bass is atleast twice as much as before on all FLAT settings .

Total cost so far is less than 1K.

A question for the gurus, which should i damp first in order to eliminate road noise : Boot, Rear wheel wells or the rear doors ??

EDIT : I need DIN tools and an equivalent of the 'panel popper' available on crutchfield. Any ideas where i can buy these ?

Awesome stuff buddy. Hats off to your DIY spirit!

Which damping material did you finally go for?

Lets catch up the next time you are coming to Mumbai.

Thanks,

I started off with the rubber sheets described in a previous post but the shop ran out of it. For the rest of the work i used another kind of rubber sheet @ 75 per kg. Seems to be of poorer quality but its heavier. Anyways, i had no choice since there werent many options for 1.5 mm thickness sheets.

Nitrile sheets for damping ? That's a first now. IMHO, nitrile rubber sheets would hardly aid any damping. Also I think the cheaper heavier alternative (should be) natural rubber sheets which again I do not think do a good job of damping.

Anyways, you are happy with the result - that's all that matters.

ps - Aditya, if you don't mind, can you tell me where you actually got these sheets from ?

I dont think they were actually nitrile rubber sheets. When the shop ran out of the material i went to another place, he told me that it was a neoprene + natural rubber mix.

I got the sheets from a shop selling all kinds of rubber stuff. In Mumbai, you would find them in lohar chawl (IIRC navinji posted about it somewhere).

to reduce road noise you need to damp the firewall and floor as well as all doors. then you should also apply a few layers of Wurth underbody spray. Dont execpt to ever eliminate road noise and in any case it's not even advisable for safe driving.

Wiring Started

I finally found all the components and started the wiring.

Items used are:

Power Cable : Polycab 10 sq mm - 7m
Speaker Cable : Showr 16 AWG - 15m
Fuse : Ichibahn 60 A
RCAs : Rockford Fosgate x2
Other Misc Connectors etc.

First Planning to install the wires and then the connectors.

The Power cable and the remote turn on wire will be running thru the centre of the car, the RCAs and right speaker wire at the right and the left speaker wire to the left.

More Pictures :

Seats removed and carpets lifted before laying down the cables

OE wires running on the Right side of car, i laid down my cables along the same route.

Green material is the OE Damping under the carpets. This had completely disintegrated under the front seats and probably was the reason for increased vibrations thru the floor.

RCAs and Right Speaker cable laid down inside flexible conduit.

Passing the 'taar' to get the speaker wire into the door. Turned out to be easier than i thought.

Work still remaining :

Attach fuse holder and lugs.

Speaker wire for rears.

Damping rear doors and left rear wheel arch

Ground Cable

Fix plank to back of seat for amp (Completely confused about this one as there are no visible metal bars on the back of the seat, gurus please advise.)

Choose and Amp!!

Suggestions and Comments are welcome
