@razor - You are most welcome & thank you for the suggestions. I will certainly test-drive the cars you have mentioned before deciding.
Are you aware of anyone doing fibreglassing in Kolkata?

@ Nura - The usual suspects, Glix people told me that they have started fabricating.

That's nice. Thanks, shuvd.
@razor - Any idea about the stock speaker options in the Fusion?

Checked with my contact there. 3 months is the official statement for both diesel and petrol. It's more of a ballpark lead time. They seem to have no clue. Apparently, Maruti isn't helping matters either.

@shuvc - You are absolutely right. Forum members from other cities have been told 6 months.

Most of these claims are just guesses and exaggerated on top of it. There has been no such word from maruti. You never know, tomorrow the production scene might ease off and in a month or so market flooded with dzires.

One could be forgiven for thinking that Maruti wants it that way.

I have almost decided to book a Dzire, but only after the hullabaloo is over.
What I understand is that if I want to install the cone midrange in the door panel, I will need to isolate its back. Will this be like putting the midrange in a sealed enclosure? Will this have any negative impact on the sound quality or the life of the midrange? If so will it be better if I replace the cone midrange with a dome midrange which has a rear chamber?
Really appreciate all the help.

That is a simple thing to do. If you size the MDF mounting ring in such a way that the front of the speaker is flush with the door pad, for all practical purposes the front wave never gets to meet the rear wave. It is quite difficult, if not impossible, to make a sealed box out of the door volume, but the issue is actually isolating the front wave from the rear wave. Check the Getz installation thread by Gunbir, and how LBM has done it for his Swift.

You don't need to replace the cones with a dome mid, since the real problem is at the lowest frequencies that the mid-bass produces.

car woofers are designed to be installed in lossy doors.

*Abhi samajh mein pada hai* Navin, thanks, your post made me realize the doctor's dilemna about the mid's backside.

Daktar-babu, Navin has achieved the same with a foam cup behind the mid's frame - prevented the low frequencies from affecting the mids. Check out @iraghav's story on Navin's Octavia - there are pics of the same. Will also give you an idea how his sub is mounted in the dicky.

actually the foam is open cell foam. it is virtually useless at low frequencies. However it does at as a resistive membrane and in that manner does reduce doppler distortion quite a bit. I have used 2 layers of the open cell foam. It lasts about 3 years before it shows signs of deteriorating.

Thanks again, Navin. I guess @nura's concern was the same - reduction of Doppler distortion - for which he wanted to isolate the mid's backside with a sealed box.

Yeah, sure
Can you describe, in layman language please, the problem I would face, if I didn't isolate the midrange back?
I tried googling "Doppler Distortion" but it was stirring a hornet's nest
Crutchfield sells foam speaker baffles.
Foam Speaker Baffles at Crutchfield.com
Would these work? Does anyone sell foam speaker baffles in India? Any downside if one installs them?
Thanks in advance.
