Thanks a lot. You have really made it easier for me. I had decided on 10", but got confused after finding that many members are using 12" or higher.

You have perfectly understood my requirement. I do not want BAAAS, I just hate it.

So, 10" sealed subwoofer with a decent monoblock is the way to go.

@PW, I remember reading one post by Ajay/B&T, that 12 inch subs outsell 10 inch by a huge margin. I dont know exactly why, but best to get the facts straight before committing to a purchase decision

Please update this thread about prices of the selected monoblock as well!

Last and final decision

I have decided not to go for monoblock now. I am going to drive the sub using 2 channels of the existing amplifier. I will go for monoblock later if required.

The sub is iDQ12 v2 D2. I have decided to go for 12" because:

1. I can use it in a sedan when I upgrade from Hatchback.
2. IDQ is basically a SQ sub
3. 12" is recommended over 10" by many distinguished members here. Check out Gills ICE upgrade thread.

it is true and the history behind this is very very long. to cut a long story short there are probably more 12" subs sold that all other sizes combined (8"-30"). This does not mean that a 12" sub is perfect for everyone.

Navin could you please elaborate on this a bit more. I am curious why 12 inch subs are the most popular.

Hahaha, I like your confusion and can identify with it to a great extent. BTW, do you think that the Panasonic would be sufficient to drive the iD sub? Is the iD not a DVC sub?

Panasonic would not be sufficient to drive the ID sub at optimal levels. But I do not want to just spend 15k - 20k on a monoblock without knowing how the subwoofer would perform with the current amplifier. I am the only person using the car and rear speakers does not matter to me.

If I am not happy I would go for a monoblock later after understanding the subwoofer and the gain I want. By that time my Vitamin M level would be restored. Currently it is low after getting Alpine 9887 and the subwoofer.

ID is a DVC sub. I do not see any issues here with respect to using the existing amplifier. Dual Voice Coils gives more options for wiring (Serial, Parallel or Independant) compared to single voice coils and it is a good feature to have.

Update:

I have dropped the car in Auto Fusion for the upgrade.

I am also getting Eclipse XA1000 monoblock to drive the subwoofer as I do not want my car to be stripped in the near future.

Wow sounds good! So what price will you be paying for the monoblock? And which sub did you finally decide on?

I do not know the exact price of the monoblock, it is around 22k.

The subwoofer is Image Dynamics IDQ 12" v.2.

I bought the monoblock from Autofusion.

I have Audison 4 channel RCA cable and 4 guage amp wiring kit for monoblock, got both for 8280. I have ordered 16 guage Monster speaker cable and another amp wiring kit for the 4 channel amplifier at Auto Fusion.

The installation is not over friend, just dropped the car. I will start a thread once the car is ready.
