JVC AVX Series Thread
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-entertainment/42376-jvc-avx-series-thread-10.html)
I have a similar questoin...I am looking out for Double Din for my Scorpio Special Edition. The options that I saw were: JVC KW-AVX836 / 846, Sony Xplod xav-70bt and Pioneer AVH - B3350BT. Can anyone suggest which is the best option? I am looking out for below mentioned features:
1. Bluetooth to use my phone (Incoming and outgoing calls with phonebook access onscreen)
2. Sterring control option (Scorpio Vlx has steering controls already. Would like to connect to the same)
3. GPS (Would like to use MapmyIndia or Satguide)
4. Camera Ready (Would like to just plug in the rear camera)
5. Should be able to connect with the Roof top DVD which is by default in Scorpio Special Edition so that the same can be duplicated.
I am getting JVC for 26k with B & W. And Pioneer (Not prefering due to small screen) for 20k with B & W. I have not enquired about Sony cost and not aware of the features as well.
Any suggestions.

I need suggestion on 2 Din DVD player for my VW Vento. I am planning to get JVC KW-AVX846. Anyone got any experience on this? I think this is quite new from JVC. Also does it have expandabe GPS option? From the spec it is saying that navigation can be used thru MotionX-GPS Drive application from i-Phone. |
I'm using the unit for my Vento. Will update the pics once I get the KS-U30 cable, which is needed to play video from iphone, from US. Motion X Drive doesn't have any maps for India. If they do, it would work with 846 with the above mentioned cable. I left a message for the Motion-X support to add these maps. So let's hope they do.

Hey got that app to work with my JVX-846. In india we don't get voice guidance but you can check the map while driving. Will post few pics soon in my ownership thread.
JVC KW-AVX840 or Pioneer AVH-P3300BT which is better for music?
I will be running polk components and coaxials with JBLA604 4 channel amp I will also add a sub-woofer and mono amp later
I am getting mixed results online, from the technical manuals both offer similar specs for music.
Any help will be highly appreciated?
Has anyone recently installed JVC 846? Is there a possibility to connect to external GPS at a later stage or do we need to get that 19,990 kit from MMI for the same? It will be great if someone can provide these inputs.

You can connect either mapmyindia or other related external GPS adapters that are too costly but not GPS units themselves. There is a port behind the HU (AV port) for GPS adapters.
However, I started using motion-x gps app on my iPhone and it displays Bing maps on the HU when connected through USB or an A/V cable. Does the job for me.
Hi Classic,
Thank you for the input. If possible can you please share the pictures of your unit in the Vento? Hope the sound clarity, reverse camera, bluetooth phone pairing etc are working good.
Few pics of my installation.. Don't have an iPhone right now to display navigation on the HU through Motion-X GPS app. Its a cheap alternative to buying Rs. 19000/16000 adapters. Only limitation with motion-x app in iPhone is that its limited to city and no voice guidance. Navigation is transmitted through A/V cable.
I got the HU off the black market for Rs. 22000 without warranty. Face plate costed 1800 and 1200 for dealer's 6 month warranty. iPhone A/V cable costed 3000 (was in a hurry to check out the navigation. Otherwise, you can get it for much less in ebay). So total cost is 28000. Good price (25000) if not for the cable. Works great. No major issues. Customizations (wallpapers, screen text/background colors) are available. Decent touchscreen response. Overall, I feel it's a good upgrade and within my budget since I'm not an audiophile to change the speakers and add an amplifier.
Protrudes a bit but got used to the set up..
Home screen
Source-Bluetooth
The bluetooth connection is little buggy to start off but once connected the quality of music and calls is very good. However, I'm having some problem with the mic location, so most of the time i keep the phone mic near my mouth (beats the purpose but much better than holding the phone to the ear).
Source-FM Radio
Source-CD
Safe to remove the HU when in creepy locations. You get a good pouch with the unit for carrying it in a bag or something.
I personally don't prefer drilling holes under the A/C for these cables. The white cable is the A/V component cable. The white USB male can be connected to the black female for using IPod/Iphone as USB or through A/V (without the USB connection). I have been using Blackberry since a while so using a separate micro USB cable (Black male).

Check out the post I just updated. I didn't use reverse camera since I felt parking sensors are sufficient.

Heard Pioneer is better if you are changing the sound systems. JVC is more known for their features.

Thanks a lot. The photos are great and the HU is pretty impressive and looks neat. Is there any way this protruding can be done with? Also hope there was no cutting of wires involved and cutouts were sufficient to connect the HU?

Nothing can be done for the protruding section. There was no cutting since they use an adapter. So go with it.
Can you please let me know if the stock unit of the vento had any pre-outs behind it for external connections?
